Invitation wording help - Reception/dinner

HJKvr, on March 22, 2018 at 3:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Does "Dinner and Reception to follow" sound weird, or should it simply be "Reception to follow" and dinner is implied? I also think the capitalization there looks strange. FYI, wedding will be at 5, followed by a cocktail hour, then dinner (buffet) and then all of the shenanigans.

I feel like you either put "Dinner and Dancing to Follow" OR "Reception to Follow". Reception implies dinner and dancing IMO.

I'd just say "reception to follow" or you can do something fun like "Fabulous food, fun, and festivities to follow". There's lots of good alternative wording ideas online if you search specifically for that.

We just put "Reception to immediately follow"

then on the details card we outlined they would have a meal choice, etc.

Hmm... ok. I wasn't sure if dinner was implied or not - I feel like when a wedding is at 5pm people would know there would be dinner but you know what happens when you assume. I think I'll stick with something simple and traditional and just roll with "Reception to follow".

Thanks! I've really just started the planning process this week so I'm sure I'll be burning up the forums for a while. Everyone is super helpful. Smiley smile

We did "dinner reception to follow" so that people would know to expect a full meal!

Exactly this. A reception includes dinner, so to say "reception and dinner" is very redundant. Either "reception to follow" or "dinner and dancing to follow".

Other wording questions, related to format/puncuation:

Is it really necessary to spell out the year? I'm running out of space... Commas on the address line if on one line?
    Example:
    Saturday, the fifth of September
    two thousand eighteen
    five o'clock in the afternoon
    Venue Name
    Street Address, Town, Georgia

**Do I need the comma between the town & Georgia? Can I omit the year line? Or should I simplify everything and just put Saturday, September 15th, 2018 (and do all commas belong?) and not spell everything out? It just looks a little crowded right now with everything spelled out.

Who knew invitations could be so complicated. I just want to get it right.

OK never mind... I figured it all out and why it was looking so crowded. Anyway - it's a done deal! Thanks for the 50% off tip at Zazzle today, whoever that was. Smiley smile

One more thing off the list.

I put ....” and Our Celebration continues... please join us after the ceremony for light cocktails, dinner and dancing” on our reception cards.
