Invitation wording...do you mention cocktail hour?

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I am printing my own wedding invites and am not sure the best way to word things. I've looked on pinterest and I have an idea, but here's my question. I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I am printing my own wedding invites and am not sure the best way to word things. I've looked on pinterest and I have an idea, but here's my question. We are having everything in one place with ceremony followed by cocktail hour followed by reception of plated dinner and of course dancing. Do I mention the cocktail hour in the invite...."cocktail hour, dinner and dancing to follow" or will people understand what is happening when they arrive anyways? Do I just write "reception to follow". For as unconventional as my wedding is, I do want the invitation to be traditional. Thank you!

Lol....I have no idea! I honesty thought cocktail hours were for "fancy upscale weddings" until I got on WW. The fact that we are having one seems very special to me and when I told my dad and step mom we were having a cocktail hour and plated meal they were surprised and were like "Oooooo" in a "wow that's nice" way.

This is us in our area 1000%. And our area there are rarely for more weddings and I would say that about half my guest have never been to any type of wedding other than like a backyard paper signing situation LOL or maybe a barbecue with in our minister to do a quick Ceremony and then eating...

what we are doing is not completely unheard of but definitely not “normal” so I’m trying to let people know relevant details that a very different for a more formal wedding but also trying to let there be a lot of surprises that day in certain aspects lol

I'm sure it will be very special -- especially if it's not the norm in your area. Enjoy every second of the planning and, most importantly, the day itself! Smiley heart

Exactly! Or a buffet in a local hall. And I honestly thought that would be our route too but my FH has surprised me by wanting to go all out and have the cocktail hour, have the plated meal, have some sort of open bar (also not the norm by me). I'm very excited and hate that I have to wait sooooo long for it to happen. Lol

Wow we really are twins or something LOL !

I would be happy with a courthouse wedding and a barbecue in the backyard but he really wanted to go all out and so we will.

i think it’s cool And i think it will be a unique once-in-a-lifetime experience for a lot of people who are coming because we really don’t have a formal weddings around here.

I’m really trying to do a lot of little stuff for our guest to make it even more unique and then I obviously think the theme outs our neediness to the world but will also be something that most people probably won’t experience again... and I definitely took it to an extreme and beyond lol

im excited for my friend to start drafts of my custom map that will reflect my floor plan in the map style of the books with my places (tables) plotted... fingers crossed lol

I am sure your guests will have an amazing time and it certainly will not be one they will ever forget!

I know it may seem difficult but is your food going to have a LOTR theme too?

I thought about that part for a really long time and we discussed it and we thought about it and we discussed it and we thought about it the best solution I could come up with was like classic country style fair...

We elected to do rotisserie chicken and sliced smoked pork from a local barbecue place in addition to the wedding party brunch and appetizers that we will serve during cocktail hour and after cake/dessert

i still need to do cocktail app menu but these are what we’re thinking as of now

Apparently the place and working with likes to offer ribs is the third meet and I don’t want ribs I’m trying to convince them to do a brisket but I would call that a wild A apparently the place and working with likes to offer ribs is the third meat and I don’t want ribs I’m trying to convince them to do a brisket or a prime rib...I would call that a wild aurochs from the plains of Rohan (or maybe Gondor) or something like that.

I’m going to have little signs like “give it to us raw a wriggling” for shrimp and bilbos seedcakes for sesame seed sandwich buns, Beorns black bread for rye and things like that...

im still brainstorming and hoping to do better...

im 1000% crazy insano so I’m literally trying to have everything relate to the theme somehow

im just hoping that at least a few of the guests actually do want to, and will, play dressup with us or the photos may be a bit disappointing for my ww friends who have said that they are wanting to see our BAM

I would just put reception to follow and then you could always put up a sign at the ceremony (like where they walk in) with all the details (ceremony @___, cocktail hour at___, dinner at____, dancing at___ and send off at___.... or something like that!)
