Invitation Wording, both parents estranged

Isis, on May 10, 2020 at 10:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hi there,

I'm (hopefully) getting married in September. We're working on the invitations now, and just realized I dont really know how to word it. My mother and I have been no contact for almost two years and she hasn't contributed a dime to my wedding, and I haven't seen my father in over ten years. I'll be honest, I'm really sad about this to be honest, and it just highlights to me how much they're both missing out. Anyway, I digress.

I don't know how to word the invitiations -

"Together with their families..."?

"You are cordially invited to the wedding of... "?

I mean, I don't really know what or how to word it if he and I are paying for the wedding, with some contribution from his family and none from mine. Any suggestions?

I like the cordially phrase and I also like “the honor of your presence is requested at the marriage of”

That's what I'm thinking too, just dont mention either parents and focus more on how happy we are to see everybody. Thanks for the suggestion.

We just didn’t put anything at the top of ours. It was just our names.
“Genevieve & Jason request the pleasure of your company at the celebration of their marriage...”

That is what we did to, as were were older, my parents had passed and we were footing the bill.

    Best wishes!

We used " Together with their Families"

It worked best for us because I have my mom, stepdad, dad and stepmom. He has his mom and Nana representing him on his side. Some are helping financially and some are not but we felt this would make all feel included :-)

We just used "request your presence". I don't really care about my dad, and they had a messy divorce that makes for a pile of complications. So we just opted to leave our families out of the invite.

Only list parents names if they are contributing to the wedding. Name only whoever is hosting the event. If you guys are primarily paying for the wedding, I would not mention any parents. If you want to keep it vague and acknowledge everyone, I agree with others here and would say “together with their families “.

We're doing "together with their families," but in your situation I think "you are cordially invited to the wedding of..." or just listing the groom's parents would make more sense.
