Invitation wording advice

KayDwitWill, on March 20, 2014 at 8:17 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Below is the wording for our invitation and I have a few questions on some things. I would like for it to be more informal than formal.

It would give us great pleasure

to have you join us

for our front yard ceremony (Is front yard "front yard" or "frontyard")

to celebrate the union of

Bride's Name

to

Groom's Name

Saturday, May 16, 2015

at 2:00 p.m.

The Williams Resident (Should the be "Resident" or "Residence")

Address

City, N.C. (Should state be abbreviated or spelled out and do I need to use the periods?)

Reception to follow in the backyard under the tent (Can I say under the tent? It's not a circus. I thought this would be cute.) (Also is backyard "backyard" or "back yard"?)

R.S.V.P via our website (Do I need the periods in RSVP?)

www.website address.com

or via text to 919-phone number

(For our older guests we will send them RSVP cards. Do I need to say that on the invite like I have the other ways to RSVP?)

Residence, Resident it the person residing there.

I wouldn't say front yard - I would say something more like outdoor ceremony. You don't need to be quite so specific with things

I would also say Union of Bride & Groom, not union of bride to groom

Say 2 o'clock in the afternoon - the time and location indicate the informality - usually an afternoon wedding is more casual than one in the evening

Spell out the state, You wouldn't need the periods though

    Reception to immediately follow

RSVP does not need periods if you do not wish to use them

I would send standard RSVP cards to everyone and say or if you would prefer RSVP by our website (I wouldn't do the text because it is too easy to lose count of people that way I think, just a suggestion)

Those are my opinions, hope it helps!

What CeCe said but make sure it says "our outdoor ceremony" instead of "out outdoor ceremony"

I think CeCe got just about everything. I would say " to have you join us for an outdoor ceremony to celebrate the union etc.". It just sounds a little smoother to me.

    Just a suggestion.

Write it in all caps, except for the Bride's name and Groom's Name. Also, keep the "and" in between the 2 names lower case. I.e. Billie Lynne Jones and Joseph Cray Smith

    Together with their families

    Bride Name (First Middle Last)

    and

    Groom Name (First Middle Last)

Invite you to join them in celebrating their marriage on

    Saturday, May 16, 2015

    The William's Residence

    Address

City, North Carolina (Spell it out)

    Garden Reception to follow

I would not put frontyard or backyard on the invite. You should have an additional information section that can give details on how to RSVP (no periods) if you are not including RSVP cards. You can either write the section on the back of the invite or on a seperate card. I would not put a phone number, you will have too many things going on so website or an RSVP card. You can also put where you are registered at in the addtional information section and if the ceremony and reception will be indoors or outdoors. You can take off Garden Reception to Follow on the front of the inivte and just right Reception to Follow (if you do the addtional info section). Also, use your website to give further details like food type (buffet or seated), open or assigned seating at reception, etc.

If you have any out of town guests, put another section on the back of the invite labeled Accomodations (or use a seperate card just for Accomodations and Additional Information sections). List a nearby hotel that you have reserved a block of rooms at and when to book the hotel room by.

    Hope this helps!
