Invitation Suite

Chelsea, on July 8, 2020 at 12:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I'm not getting married until next summer, but quarantine really has me in the mood to plan everything out! I am having a loca artist design my invitations. What should I include in the invitation suite?

Most of my guests are familiar with using wedding websites, so we are having them RSVP that way too. I thought about putting this information on a smaller card. Do I need a details card if that is all on the website?

Open to any suggestions — let me know what you all have done before!

I had a details card with rehearsal dinner info since we were inviting everyone, my website, and venue address. And an accommodations card with the hotel block info.

I did make a details card and a normal RSVP card for my older guests that I know can't use a computer.

We included a separate RSVP card and details card insert along with our invitations. Our RSVP card was actually just a card that directed guests to RSVP on our wedding website, though! On our wedding website via the Knot, guests pre-selected their meal choice when RSVP-ing. The details card had info about our hotel block and rehearsal dinner, and was only sent to out of town guests and people invited to our rehearsal dinner (all out of town guests were invited to the rehearsal dinner, because it was pretty casual). Probably not the most traditional way of doing things, but it worked for us!

I had the invitation, rsvp card, and then another card with the hotel block information that Marriott gave me for free so, while it didn't match my invitation suite, I couldn't beat free (plus I've seen the same thing multiple times before). If you want, you can probably get away with everything just being on one invitation, with a line saying "rsvp online at [url]". Once they are already on the website, they will more than likely look at any other tabs for accommodations information and the like. I don't think you need maps anymore. People all have a smartphone and can just type the address in to their phone's gps.

This was sort of what I was thinking! Something about the aesthetic of the URL on the invitation is throwing me off, so that's why I'm thinking of including a smaller card. I suppose I can make it an Details & RSVP kind of thing. I don't have many older guests who can't work the internet, but I think I may just give the option to call in the RSVP just in case. I know that's probably not great etiquette, but I'd rather do that than pay for stamps (gotta save a dollar where ya can).

I spent more time than I'd like to admit on the wedding website, haha, but I did put a map of our venue (it's a botanical garden) on there as well as the suggested hotels.

My website is pretty great (I used the Knot). I've spent admittedly way too much time on it haha, but I did put a map of our venue (it's a botanical garden) on there as well as the suggested hotels.

The issue I see with calling you to RSVP is that you may forget to write it down. As long as you think you'll remember to jot down their name somewhere to then update the guest count, then I don't see an issue with the calling option. I just know that, for me, it would be a disaster cuz if they call while I'm in the middle of something I am very likely to not write it down and forget they ever called lol.

This is pretty much my way of thinking! I'm also using the Knot, and I feel like it's so user friendly. I think if I can navigate everyone there with the smaller card, all will be well.

Let's face it, I'd like to save a few bucks by not buying stamps for RSVPs too!

Understandable. I feel like there won't be many that would opt for that though. I think people will check out the website to find the hotel blocks, registries, and all those others goodies — they'll probs just RSVP while they're there. I think the call would primarily be for older family members' convenience.

It actually worked out very well for us! We definitely didn't want our website URL on the invitation itself, because our Knot website was password protected and we needed to write the password on the RSVP card too (would have been way too much text to go on the invite itself). Only one guest had an issue with RSVP-ing online, but she called us and we sorted it out right away. Not having to buy stamps for RSVPs was a win win
