Invitation styles, what’s everyone doing?

Amanda, on March 12, 2022 at 8:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 24
I am getting ready to order invitations, and I can’t decide if I want a card style or a fold style. What’s everyone doing? I always just assumed I would do the fold kind and include an engagement picture inside. The problem is everything I’m looking at is a card style. I’m just not sure what to do.

We are doing a card style, we just need something basic to let everyone know we're eloping, the website to view the ceremony and they're welcome to come out to party we us after the ceremony (we're getting hitched in Vegas).

Have you thought about ordering the card and DIYing the folding part?

I was afraid if I folded it on my own that it wouldn’t look as good. I just wasn’t sure how popular the card style was.

We are doing a pocket invitation. Since MOST of our guests will be flying in from out of state, I really liked this style. I can include pretty much every minute detail, and guests can pull out the card that corresponds to the day/event.

I am blind, is there a way for you to describe me the pocket invitations?

I would think they are very popular even though the folding style is very elegant and beautiful. I know that folding style is more expensive because of how they're made, not saying the cost is an issue for you. It is understandable why you would think DIYing them yourself wouldn't look as good as professional done.

Yeah, I mean I would rather not spend three or four dollars per invitation but I want what looks best.

As you should, but don't think they won't look good because you didn't get exactly what you really wanted. What sites have you looked at so far that you are concerning?

I’ve been shopping on Zazzle. Is there other sites that are good? They had some invitations that sounded really cute and came in my wedding colors.

Well I am getting mine off Zazzle because I just want as basic as I can get. However, when I was thinking about the folding style I looked on Instagram for people who made stationary items.

The invitation is vertical - 5" by 8". When you open it, the invitation part is printed in the center, on the right side is a pocket with addition stacked sheets, each detailing specific parts of the wedding. For us, the sheet will be labelled "Accommodations", "Dinner Menu", "RSVP" , "Welcome Dinner" and "FAQ".

And, For ANYONE interested, Magnet Street is having a HUGE sale - 70% off and free shipping until 3/15.

I wonder if that would be some thing that would work for me. I am going to need an insert sheet for reception information since we are not doing the reception at the ceremony site. I will have to make the reception information available later than I would be printing invitations. I am also going to include a map to fine at the ceremony site since we are getting married on the beach and the planner has a specific area that they use between mile markers. They provided me the map to show where they typically set up.

I’ve tried looking other places, but Zazzle seemed like they had the most decorative and pretty invitations that weren’t super formal.

Thanks for that, I will give them a look and see if they have anything that looks like what we are wanting.

We did card style and put a photo on the back and had a few inserts!

If you have your heart set on card style you could always search online for styles you like then design your own on Canva! They'll even print them for you!

My mom says I’m old-fashioned because I assumed wedding invitations were supposed to be folded. Apparently card style is the new thing. I just didn’t know how card style would look with inserts. I was going to need an insert for the reception information once I had it and I wanted to include some pictures.

I'm just putting my inserts in the envelope with the card style, but I've also seen people bind everything together with vellum or ribbon! They also make special envelopes that have pockets for everything!

I think card style is popular because you can pop it up on your fridge and don't have to open it to see the information inside!
But you can absolutely still do a folded style - it's your day!

I think I might do card style and do like you said and tie everything together with a ribbon. I like that idea and I think it gives it a nice touch.

Do they have a good selection of styles? We’re getting married on the beach so I want something beachy.

I think so! Go to their site and type in “beach wedding invitation”. It’ll give you a bunch of options. I like them because they let you choose the color of every part of the invite from lettering to design
