Invitation Sealing

PhillyReally, on May 13, 2014 at 1:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Has any of you ladies seed your actual invite with a wax seal??

If so how did it turn out, did your invite tear upon opening???

I have pocket fold and would love to do wax seals... TIA

Wax seals can be nice but -

    A. It can add weight and raise the price if mailing...

    B. The automated postal machines will rip off the wax seals, so you need to request that they be hand cancelled/sorted. This has no additional cost, but requires you to wait in line at the post office, as well as can delay delivery slightly.

Like Pezzy said it can get damaged off when mailing - you might consider doing the seal and then an outer envelope to help keep it from being damaged. I would still have them hand cancelled even with an outer envelope. I used a wax seal on cards I made to ask our bridal party (hand delivered) and they were able to open it just fine; it didn't tear the envelope.

Will the post machine rip off the seal if it's on the invitation(not the outer envelope)?

We're doing it with coloured glue-gun glue. Right on the outer envelope. Haven't actually sent them yet, though.

Yeah. Well I figure the outer envelope will tear for sure, but it's just an envelope and that's what it's for. You think the invites on the inside would also get wrecked? The glue ones at least are more flexible (similar to the sticker kind) than actual wax. So I think in that aspect they should hold up ok. I do plan to march them into a post office and not just jam them into a mailbox.

    We shall see...!!!!

Oh, also the people at the stationary place where we bought the glue and glue gun said that they do them onto wax paper and when they're dry they peel them off (or maybe just cut the wax paper?? I wasn't super clear) and use double sided tape onto the envelopes. We're going to try straight onto the envelopes first and if that fails we're going to switch methods...

See I have the glue gun with the wax... I put the wax in the glue gun and then when it gets hot I push it thru onto the invite and use my A stamp to make an A impression!!! It looks GREAT just not sure how the guest will get the invite open without a tear!!!

We did the wax seals with a hot glue gun on our inner envelopes. We didn't have them hand cancelled, but they arrived just fine to our guests (we mailed them to our parents first to make sure they would look ok). This is where we purchased the seal and the wax.

I used wax seals but did it to seal the pocket invitation and didn't put it on the exterior envelope. I wrapped the pocket inviation with a white ribbon and then put the wax seal on top of it. I am not aware of any being damaged in transportation--the exterior envelope kept them pretty well protected, I think.

I used nostalgic impressions too and the quailty was great!

I would recommend just getting their self adhesive wax stamps, it saves tons of time. They pre-make all the wax seals and put sticky stuff on the back, like a big sticker Smiley smile

I used a paper punch and made these super cute and easy seals! Just put double sided tape on the back and they stick beautifully without ruining anything!

Heres what they looked like at the end. I can't imagine actually melting and stamping all the wax myself! It took enough time as it is to assemble the dumb pocket invitations Smiley smile
