Invitation Phrasing Help

Ashley, on April 24, 2020 at 9:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I'm trying to figure out what to say at the beginning of our invitations (ex. Together with our families). We are paying for the majority of the wedding, but my grandma did help with our venue deposit. Originally, we were just going to say "with our families" but about two months ago, we found out my FH's father refuses to attend and that his parents have made it quite clear that they do not accept us getting married (which is news to us since these past 8 years they have accepted me into the family). But anyway, my FH has since cut them out of his life so having "our families" isn't going to work, but my grandma will also be pissed and think we're ungrateful if we don't somehow include her.

I would still include the together with our families. No one needs to know that there’s issues on your FH’s side. And that way you can still respect your grandmother😊

I agree with Morgan. We are paying for our own wedding completely so our started with "Danielle and DeShawn invite you to their wedding."

You could also start "the pleasure of your company is requested at the wedding of..."

If you want to honor your family, I still think "together with their families" is appropriate. You don't need to get sticky with it because of certain family members. But, if you're okay to just cut all the "who shall be honored on our invites" stuff, you can always do what PPs have suggested, like "Bride & Groom request the pleasure of your company..."

Thank you. I messed around a bit with the wording and felt "together with their families" looked the best. I said he thought so too.
