Invitation Debate

Mandee, on May 13, 2020 at 8:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hey y'all,

So my FH and I ordered a bunch of samples off of minted/shutterfly/magnetstreet and then went out together (for the first time since lock-down!!) to go over them and pick out our favorite! Well the one we settled on is a fancy letterpress one from Minted (and I knew it was going to be expensive) but I went online to order it today and it's over five hundred dollars for fifty-five invitations!! Just the invites, no RSVP cards or addressing!!

I am devastated because that's just not in our budget and we had this whole special experience picking that one out (which we haven't gotten a lot of due to the lock-down). I'm attached to it, but I really cannot justify spending that kind of money on invitations!!!

What should I do? I feel like I've compromised on a lot of things for the wedding to make other people/the budget happy and I reeeaaalllly love these invites!

I couldn’t justify it either. Hmmm, since most guests throw them away do you (or anyone else) think it’s rude if you ordered only a few premium ones for you (your album) and your family/VIPs and then regular invites for everyone else?

I definitely wouldn't pay that much money just for wedding invitations because like Pirate & 60s Bride said most guests with just throw the invitations away.

We will have very simple invites. Our save the dates were postcards. They get thrown away...spend the money on things that will be remembered.

Our STDs were magnets because shutterfly has a half off sale and they were cheaper than normal ones lol. I think I just got caught up in the experience and being extra af, lol. I know nobody is going to care about the invites other than me!

I had the same exact thought until it came to deciding on our wedding invites and my DH whipped out a box filled with every wedding invite he’s ever received. I was shocked.

But he’s a sentimental weirdo so I definitely agree with you. Haha

My friend did the same thing last year for her wedding. They were really cute, but it didn’t stay on our fridge long before making it’s way into the garbage. (all I’m gonna say is...a lot of thought and excitement was put into the wedding details and not the relationship...$20,000 dollars on a party & 9 months later...they’re getting a divorce). As long as you don’t get caught up in the party aspect & focus on what really matters...It’s your day...and you should do & spend what you want. 💕

I loved the letter press from Minted! But the price tag was crazy! So I reached out to Minted and have been talking with them about the invites that I liked. They have been very helpful and quoted me a much more reasonable price for the same design but the card will be just printed in the color ink I liked. So it’s not the letter press but I am still getting the same design/layout that the letter press was in but at a way better price. I know people will throw these things out but I will keep a copy or two and also will want a details picture of it so I still want it to look pretty. Invites are the first impression of your wedding in my opinion and I want them to be pretty.

I could not justify spending a ton of money on invitations. The vast majority of people just throw out the invitation. Honestly, I couldn't tell you what most invitations I've received looked like. We went with Ann's Bridal Bargains. It cost me around $130 for 100 invitations with envelopes and RSVPs included. They were beautiful and good quality. I even got some compliments! Personally, I feel like if you're going to splurge on something, the stationary shouldn't be that thing. I would much rather have that extra money go into another part of my budget.
