Invitation Costs

Samantha, on January 20, 2020 at 11:10 PM Posted in Planning 1 12
We are in the very early stages of wedding planning and trying to set a budget. We are thinking about $40-$50k but we are in the DMV area and we are concerned that number may even go up. Anyways we are not quite sure what percentage of your budget should be used for invitations. They're going to be the introduction to our wedding. We aren't doing Save-The-Dates.
So what how much have you guys spent on invite? And where did you get them...online or at a stationary store?

We spent $182 on 100 invites, RSVP cards and envelopes, and details cards from Vistaprint during their Black Friday sale. This does not count postage, which will be $125 (2 oz. postage and .55 postage for RSVP cards). I’ll be making pockets for our invites myself using my Cricut, so that’ll just be the cost of the card stock. I didn’t want to spend a truckload of money on something that will just get thrown away.

Those look great! And you're spending about $310 which sounds reasonable. And you're right I never thought about it being something that people would just throw away afterwards. Thanks for sharing!

The cost of invitations is really going to depend on how many guests you are having. Obviously, the more guests, the more invitations. But you will also need more stamps (for both the invite and rsvp) as well as any additional information cards you want to add. These are the things that will add up quick if you’re not paying attention. I got mine from a website called Prints of Love.

I definitely think this is one area that you can easily keep costs down, but if your budget is $**** then I don’t think it’s going to be what makes or breaks it either way. Congrats on your engagement!

I budgeted $250 for the actual invites and envelopes but it might even come out to less. Right now I'm looking at nationsphotolab.com because Zazzle didn't have the size of invite that works for us. We can get 125 trifold cards for $117 at Nations Photo Lab. I agree with PP, invites are cute and I know a few people will keep them but I guess it's also very normal for guests to throw them away after. (I mean, I never have, I've kept all mine but...!) and yeah either way if your budget is that, I'm sure invites won't make or break you. But I suggest taking a look at these invites online like the site I suggested or Zazzle/Shutterfly/Zola etc before paying crazy amounts of money. They have many cool designs if you don't want to do them completely from scratch and the prices are fair.

Magnetstreet.com or Shutterfly will decrease with cost the more you purchase. around 1$ per invite for anything under 200 guests and cheaper if more.

I am having a pretty high budget wedding with 140 invites sent out. Even with getting gold foil and postage my cost for Save the Dates and Wedding invitations with belly bands and reception cards was negligible compared to the budget of the venue, food & drinks, clothing, vendors.

    I used Minted for everything

Luckily our friend is designing ours so we are just paying for the cardstock and to have them printed out at Staples. But like the other ladies, we werent trying to spend too much money on them because most people throw them out. But if you have time, definitely see if you can wait until any of the websites have any sales during any of the major holidays.

I’m a DIY bride, so I’m doing them on my own. Bought a template with everything for invites through Etsy for $12. Bought cardstock, envelopes, and stamps for $80. Printing on my own and at my mom’s work for free! Woohoo! So I’m spending less than $100 on 100+ invites! I agree that people are going to look at it and throw it away, so I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg for them.

We got our GORGEOUS invitations online from AnnsBridalBargains.com. 100 invitations, 75 response cards, all 3 envelopes (with printed returns), and 100 custom napkins all for only $110, including shipping. It took about a week to get them. Then, when we changed the time and had to have them reprinted, they gave us a 40% discount. They've been great to deal with!
