Invitation belly band

Makayla , on September 20, 2018 at 2:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8
Hey guys I am going to do my invitation belly band. My invites are 5x7 and I want my belly bands to be glitter cardstock. What do you recommend sealing them with?

What's a belly band? Is that like a ribbon around the card?

Yes, that is the ribbon that ties it all together.

I'm wanting to do this too.
I think I'm getting glue dots, i think they're called.
Or maybe a dot of hot glue?
and then a monogram square to cover it

Sealing the belly bands with? So are you making them yourself? I'd do some test runs, with a glue stick, double sided tape, glue gun, or a cute sticker. I think it just depends on how thick the cardstock will be and what kind of glitter to see what it will hold.

Hi Makayla! I would try using strong clear adhesives like rubber cement and gorilla glue! If these don't work, maybe try a double-sided tape or stickers! Is the material you will be attaching glittery or sparkly? Surfaces with textured glitter can be really tricky, so as noted above, trying different products before you do them all is a smart idea!

We used glue dots, no mess and no fuss.

Having learned the hard way: Weigh out your whole invitation package before you start any work on them. Many are designed by the manufacturer to be just under limits to go with a single first class postage stamp. My sister and a friend, with weddings close together, and on low budgets, added velvet ribbon and a single tiny half faceted crystal glue on, and were upset that it cost them a huge jump for going over the line with postage, times 200 invites. They figured the $60 or so spent on ribbon and crystal, plus $80 or so extra postage ( lots out of country) made invites more expensive than the tiny embellishment was worth! We do not think in tenths of ounces. I started to make that mistake with sealing wax. Stopped after weighing the first. Used less, smaller, and squeaked under the added postage limit. I would never have thought of it if not warned. But since, have noticed other brides hints, if close to limit, 1/8" and 1/4" Fabric ribbons and gold or silver foil embossed stickers for seals are ever so much lighter than velvet, wax, or any adhesive or "jewel".

If you're using glitter stock use an ATG tape gun & add some weight to make sure they stick. Glitter card stock can be finicky with glue. There's also a glue called Zip Dry that you can find at craft stores.
