Invitation and rsvp Dates

Suzie, on August 2, 2020 at 7:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

For those who are hosting a smaller wedding this year due to COVID, are you sticking with the traditional time frame for sending out invitations and requesting RSVPs? I am not sure if I should give people more or less time due to the unknown going on right now. Our invitations should normally be going out Aug 16, with Sept 20 as the deadline for RSVPs, since our date is Oct 11. Since we are only hosting 20 people, and we don't need to give a head count for vendors, I am wondering how we should move forward. Thanks in advance!

If there is any chance of you having to reduce your guest list due to COVID restrictions, I would set the RSVP date sooner, so that in case you end up having to reduce your guest count, it gives you time to do so based on who responded. Otherwise, if reducing guest list is not a risk, I would give people maybe a little more time to RSVP (maybe an extra week or so?). Some people may want to wait until time gets closer before responding to see whether COVID is improving in the area or not.

We are already reducing the wedding from a 100 guest count to 20 (which goes along with our current regulations), so that is already a factor. I do think some people may want to wait as long as they can, so I was thinking an extra week as well. BUT, that would be 2 weeks before, and it just seems so close!

2 weeks before does seem close! I think 3 weeks prior to the wedding is fine for the RSVP date in this case. That should be close enough to the wedding date for those who are waiting it out to make a decision, yet far enough out to where you aren't rushed in tracking anyone down who hasn't responded.

We sent out Oct 11 DW invites out 3 weeks ago with RSVP 8/31 due to our resort #s
Otherwise we would’ve sent them this week for a 4 week RAVP

I think three weeks ahead is enough time for people to have a decent sense of what will be going on covid-wise. You'll probably have to follow up with some people after the date passes, so 2 weeks would make me nervous. I think you can wait another week or two to send them out if you want to, but your timeline looks good as it is to me.

I would base the rsvp date on when you need to have final information and counts for your rentals. If this isn’t a factor, I don’t see any harm in giving an extra week.

I am sending mine out a bit earlier, mainly because of USPS delays and the possibility of them sending mail back (has been happening to some wedding invites) but also because many people haven't responded to anything wedding related and most guests are from across the country.

Oh yikes! I didn’t even think of that. All of our guests this year are local, so hopefully this won’t be a big issue.

Oh then you'll probably be ok! 95% of our guests are from out of town and across the country so I don't want to take any chances haha! Good luck!
