Invitation advice

Kristen, on June 20, 2019 at 9:45 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
We are having our ceremony and reception at the same venue with a cocktail hour in between while we do pictures. How should I word this on the invitation? I’m assuming not everyone will come to the ceremony so do I need specific times or just putting cocktail hour and reception to follow is sufficient enough?

I think "reception to follow" is sufficient. Most people do attend both ceremony and reception, especially if they're in the same location, and you don't need to specify that there's a cocktail hour.

We are doing the same thing. On our invitations I just put the address with the start time and then put Adult reception to Follow. This way guests see the address and the start time and then know that the reception follows at the same location.

The only time I’ve seen on a formal invite is the ceremony and it can say with reception to follow. If people can’t make the ceremony due to conflicting schedules and the risk of being late that’s totally understandable! But otherwise they should enjoy your ceremony and reception! Maybe someone at your venue can make sure that late guests don’t wander in, or make a wedding website with a timeline!

We just put the time the ceremony starts with "Formal reception with buffet style dining and dancing to follow"

I would say "reception to follow" and you'll be fine! People don't need to have all the exact information.
