Intro & Spiral Ceremony Seating

Yellow Wedding, on July 18, 2015 at 10:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

I've been reading posts for about a month so I'm making the jump to introduce myself and ask my first question. FH proposed in early May at the finish line of my 7th marathon in Colorado. It was my toughest race ever and a complete surprise! I've been full force idea planning since we got home from that vacation. We live in Pittsburgh, but we are getting married in Lake Lure, NC. I love the location of our ceremony as there are beautiful mountain and lake views around the park. I also want a completely unique ceremony, which is why I am in love with the Spiral Seating ceremony style. I think it creates an more intimate wedding. FH has concerns that it is weird and will make things difficult for the photographer. I found posts about this topic from a few years ago, so I thought it was time to ask again. Has anyone been to a ceremony like this and how did it go? How many guests do you think would be best for this set up? We are having no more than 90. Thanks for your input!

Welcome to WW! Your engagement story is awesome Smiley smile I think the spiral seating looks really neat, that's the first I've ever seen it! From the looks of it, if you have around 90, you may need more chairs than in the pic, and I can see how it could be challenging for the photographer, but surely they would have some ideas. Question, so when you walk down the aisle, everyone would stand, and you would walk through the spiral? Make sure the aisle is wide enough so you aren't bumping into guests, depending on what type of dress you have, I can see that being an issue Smiley smile

The space in the center of that picture looks a bit small for you, your FH and the officiant, so you may consider making yours a bit larger. I really don't have any feedback or advise, since this is the first I've seen it, however I'm interested to see if other brides have experience and any input. Good luck!

I love the spiral seating! I agree with @JamieLynn make sure the aisle is wide enough so you have space to get through. I am planning a circle seating for my ceremony and I think it looks amazing because people can really see and focus on your ceremony. When sitting in the normal style seating it can be hard for people in the back to see you. ETA: Your proposal was awesome! Congrats!!

I think the seating is great for a smaller ceremony. This particular set up seems to have a very narrow aisle. I imagine with double the chairs yours would be much bigger and you'd be walking in circles for a while. You can put the chairs in a circle around you in rows and cut it in half up front for your aisle. Sorry, did my best to explain it. I can't post pics. :/

Congrats on your engagement. My brother and sister in law got married at Lake Lure a few years ago- it was beautiful in early March and I'm sure it will be even better in Oct with the leaves changing colors.

The spiral seating is interesting, but I think it would only work for a 50 or less person wedding. I think the logistics of trying to seat 90 people in a spiral, have a processional/recessional (remember, you'll be 2 people wide for at minimum the recessional), and a bridal party if you are having one is just too much. I can also see it being extremely difficult on mountain terrain is it seems to take up a lot of space. Not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to be realistic with logistics.

Thanks for your input ladies! I've looked at a different option with the spiral much larger so it's only like one and a half loops with 90 seats. I don't believe we will get all invited 90 since it is a destination wedding, but I know to plan for all invited. Also, we arent have a traditional wedding party so it will just be FH and I with our friend who is officiating standing in the center. I just have to get FH on board with the idea. Smiley smile

My first thought when I saw the engagement photo was "let her get across the finish line so she can get her chip timed!" Haha. I'm a runner too, and from Colorado. What a cute engagement. No advice on the spiral seating though, sorry. We are getting married in a church in Denver.
