Intimate living room wedding

While we just got a quote for our top choice venue in Puerto Rico for the big family wedding, we've been toying around with the idea of doing an intimate living room wedding at our home. I'm thinking ceremony in front of our fireplace that's under a painting from FHs parents first house. Buffet style catering (no self catering btw) Small cake, champagne, plenty of alcoholic beverages, flowers by the fireplace, staircase and centerpiece. I love the idea and think it would be very meaningful for us. It would just be parents, siblings, and grandparents which comes to a max 15. I would need to buy or rent a bigger dining table and some chairs but we definitely have room for it. Has anyone done this? I'm worried about how the different sets of parents and siblings would get along for a long time when they haven't met before. Will it be awkward? Also which season? Winter is out because I don't want to risk snow driving difficulties, but I can't decide between spring, summer, or fall.

This sounds amazing! What about a solo artist like a violinist or a cellist? I think it would be dreamy!!!

This wedding sounds so amazing. I'm a little jealous, lol. What does the living room look like? Does the room have a certain color scheme? That may help with picking a season.

Oooo a solo artist! Yes! That would be so beautiful.

I had a large wedding but I love this idea!

Haha so far things are still in the fantasy stage but I am getting more excited! I guess a playlist will do. Solo artist sounds great for the ceremony. Our house has blues and grays. I'm thinking Spring now! I'm just worried about drama down the line with the limited guest list and everyone looking forward to Puerto Rico, but I know it'll pass and I'll have established key boundaries in the beginning of our marriage. Still dreading it!

I'm totally seeing this as a November wedding. Not quite winter, but perfect for a fireplace.

    It sounds lovely!

Thanks! I do like November. At least this year that's when the leaves really changed colors around here.

This is what we did and I absolutely loved it! We are married in front of the piano that has been in David's life since middle school. We placed photographs and mementos of/from the people we loved most as our way of including them at our wedding. It was just David, me, and my daughter, along with the officiant and the photographer and his assistant. Having the ceremony there gave me the excuse to transform the place from a man cave into a home. We went out to a really fun restaurant afterwards for lunch and the next day held a brunch for 13 guests at an amazing Mexican restaurant/bakery. From there we splurged on "Romance Package" at a very beautiful hotel.

I really recommend this! I managed to have a teeny tiny wedding, but a three day celebration for a mere fraction of the cost of what most people spend on weddings, and we live in Southern California.

If we had decided for more guests, I would have put some of the big furniture in storage and rented a few tables and chairs and had a local restaurant cater. I loved how personal this was!

That sounds romantic and very meaningful. I vote for spring or fall.
