Interracial Marriage

Christi, on July 24, 2020 at 5:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
I am getting married in October and want to keep some traditional things in play. My fiance is African American and I am wanting to do something special. Need help with suggestions.

Maybe you could ask him what traditions are important in his culture that he would like to include in your wedding.

Jumping the broom goes back to the slave days. It's after you're pronounced husband and wife. I think that's a nice touch. If you have the type of sense of humor that me and my fiance have, I am black and he is white, we are really leaning towards doing a marble or half chocolate half vanilla cake. He even sings the song Ebony and Ivory when I bring that up but for our sense of humor we would do something like that to kind of represent the joining of our two races.

Speak with him about jumping the broom. Google a few images and videos. You can also decorate it yourself and keep it somewhere in your home or hang on a wall after the wedding.

I’m in an interracial relationship as well. He is Asian. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Congrats. Ask his parents too, they will help you out.

Yes, I would discuss this more with you fiancé. Also, discuss it with his family. There may be family traditions he wants incorporated as well. I know most people love jumping the broom. We’re definitely doing it. However, I’ve also spoken to other black couples, who are not keen on the idea. Also, want to be mindful of regional diversity as well, family customs etc.
