International rsvp Postage

Liz, on April 1, 2021 at 9:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

We're about to send out our very late STD's and about to go purchase stamps for them and the invitations so we don't have to make multiple trips when I just realized about half my invitations are going international (Canada). How does international RSVP postage work? Can I buy Canadian stamps in the US? Do I have to have a family member purchase them there and send them to me to put on the RSVP envelope? Just put no postage on their RSVPs and make them responsible for return postage? Majority of the Canadians are of the older crowd, and several don't even own computers, and I think they would go the traditional route of returning the RSVP through the mail as opposed to "using these new fangled technology things."

Oh boy I didn't even think about this when I sent our invites out! I have family in the Philippines and Canada and stupidly just put a US Forever Stamp on it. 😬 Our return address is on it, so I'm hoping that they'll be returned to us if they're not accepted!! AAHH!!

International Reply Coupons used to be the way to pay for cross border return postage, but I think they have generally fallen out of use. Will Canada Post ship stamps bought online to the USA? Or do you have a contact in Canada who could buy stamps and send you them?

When you go buy your stamps I would ask someone at the post office! They should be able to tell you the best way to go about that.

I know the US post office sells stamps by mail (that's how we bought all of our STD and invitations postage); does the Canadian post office also sell stamps that could be mailed to you?

We sent a few invites to Australia, and they just weighed them and put 2 international stamps on them. They are like $1.20 per 1oz.
For the RSVPs, I just asked the guests to rsvp online. But if you already have the RSVP envelope included in your invitation, I'd just leave the stamp and get them to put their own one on. Especially if they are more older folks, I'd assume they'd be more than happy to make a trip to the post office, pay for a stamp to send you back your RSVP!
