International rsvp Cards

Deirdre, on January 5, 2018 at 2:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I have a question for brides who sent invitations to international guests. We are in the USA, but are inviting a few people who live in England. How did you stamp the RSVP card (or did you do something else)? I wasn't sure if the international postage I bought here would be the same needed to send the RSVP card back. I'm sure I can ask at the post office, but thought if someone here already knew it would make it easier. I wasn't sure if people actually sent RSVP cards internationally or used an online RSVP option instead. Thank you!

I have my sister coming from Australia and hadn't given the postage on the RSVP much thought until now. I think the easiest way would be for either an online option or for those guests to contact you personally. I'll probably just text my sister and ask if her and her boyfriend are definitely coming and if so, what they want to eat.

I was thinking that too, but wasn't sure if it was improper wedding etiquette. Thank you.

It might not be proper etiquette but it will probably save some stress on trying to figure out the right postage and whatnot.

I’m setting up a RSVP option on my wedding website for international guests, and we expect the one or two older guests to just call our parents. But I’m also curious as to what others have done about this.

There is no expectation that you will include foreign postage on your international rsvp envelopes.

You can buy an International reply coupon which they can take to their post office, but honestly, it's more trouble than it's worth.

You can also buy UK postage on Ebay if you want to go all out.

As mentioned, you could give them an option to reply online.

I sent a bunch of invitations to Israel and France, we used online RSVPs, so we didn’t have to worry about the postage. I would also reach out and let them know you’ll be sending a formal invite, and give website info if your using one, especially if you aren’t sending save the dates, to make sure they are received. None of our STDs were returned to us, but 4 of our invitations were returned, 2 of them after the wedding.

I have a friend from New Zealand I'm inviting. I hadn't given this much thought either. She's already reached out and told me it'll be too expensive to come (Smiley cry ) so I'm not worried about it anymore, but I was just going to tell her to let me know by a certain day via text or Facebook message when she figured it out.

In this case, just throw etiquette out the window and make it easy on yourself and them and just do an online option, text, a phone call, Facebook, etc.

I sent an invitation to my FBIL in Mexico. I had to use 4 stamps.

We had one for Israel and the post office told us we could not pre-stamp the return RSVP card. We just put a note inside the invitation asking for them to email us their response. Your best bet is to check with your post office.

I'm only in Canada, and if you put US postage on an RSVP card Canada Post wouldn't accept it. Each country uses their own postage. You cannot prestamp it.
