International Postage

Jess, on May 23, 2018 at 11:48 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

So I am getting ready to start putting my invites together. I will be sending two of them internationally (to Brasil). On the return RSVP envelope, I will of course be including a stamp for the return but I am wondering how I would do that for the international ones?

When I go to the post office to send them and get the international stamps, do I just not seal them until I get the stamps? Or would it be ok if I left them blank? We do have the option to also RSVP through our website but I don't know how computer savvy FH's grandfather is (his Aunt would have no problem with that).

You should go to the post office and ask them your questions, as they would know best.

You can't. International stamps are for US to international. They will not be accepted in another country.

Hi Jess! I believe you should be able to obtain a global forever stamp, which is accepted anywhere in the world; however, I would confirm this with USPS.com or your local post office for the best possible guidance!

How has planning been going for you overall? What has been the most exciting part? I would love to know!

As PP said, you can't do this. I'd just ask these few people to RSVP via phone or email. Save them the international postage and you the headache of possibly getting them way late.

Sweet! Thanks for the information everyone! I'm sure his Aunt will be able to RSVP online but I'll talk to his mom and see if she can get a phone call RSVP from his grandfather (he speaks very little English and I speak no Portuguese lol)

PP's are right. I have family in Australia and tried to get the stamp that would be equivalent for them to send my postcard RSVP back. The postal employee told me that they won't be able to send it back because they won't accept outgoing mail with a US stamp on it. That's like us trying to mail out something to Australia with an Australian stamp on it.

So I'm sending all the RSVP's that are going to Australia without a stamp and asking them to just RSVP online or let me know if they will be able to come so that I can RSVP online for them.

I had this come up with a couple of guests and i just told them to use my wedding website, or call/email me their RSVP. There is also nothing stopping that person who you think can't do electronic RSVP from having someone help him/her (perhaps the Aunt) or purchase a stamp and send the rsvp back. I think in this case, people understand.....

My BMs are coming from Brazil as I was born and raised there 😀 for my international guests (I also have a couple form Sweden) we will just include an insert with phone and email information so they can reach us that way.
Let me know if you need help with Portuguese! I'll gladly help 😉

I had two going to Sweden. I left the envelopes unsealed until I got 4 international stamps. I put one(2) each for the invitations and 1 each for them to send them back. I placed them on while at the post office. Was pretty easy.

There is no such thing as a global forever stamp.

You cannot buy stamps in the US that are good for mailing in other countries.

You can buy an International Reply Coupon which can be exchanged at Post Offices for stamps in other countries but it is a PIA to use. Just give them alternatives like email, website or phone.

I looked into this recently as well. Unfortunately, there is no idea way to do this and it is best to just leave the stamp off. If you are close with these people and talk regularly, tell them you don’t mind a verbal/email rsvp.

Hey There! I am Brazilian and I did send out invitations home.

    Just let them RSVP electronically.

Your FH can check with grandpa and find out his answer through the phone (much easier then postage) in case the Aunt doesn't help with the electronic RSVP. I don't think a stamp from here would work on the postal offices there (Brazil can be complicated when it comes to these details).

I'm glad you asked this! I think we will just ask the out of country guests to RSVP online.

There is a Global Forever stamp, it's just for sending mail internationally from the US.

I left my RSVP envelopes to my invitees abroad without stamps and with a note that they could email me. Some chose to mail back anyway.

Sorry, I meant in the context of the OP's question -a stamp that can be purchased in the US and used elsewhere.

We are talking about mailing the RSVP cards back from other countries, like Sweden.

I see that, so with the same stamp it can't be used to sent it back? My Fh said it should be able to, his from Sweden. But, it could be different for other countries that was mentioned. I had the two invitations to Sweden with stamps for the RSVP cards placed on them. My finacè said he'll ask him mom tomorrow.

The stamps from the post office were $1 and some change per stamp. Big round ones, I can't remember exactly how much, but more than ours US stamps.

I am in the same situation as most of my family is in England. To apply a stamp for them to send internationally back to you you’d need to purchase the stamps in the country. You could either leave them non stamped and they’d have to stamp them. Or ask them to mail you stamps. I am having a family member mail me stamps so I can pre stamp them.
