International Couples Advice!

Allie, on March 21, 2020 at 3:37 AM Posted in Planning 3 6
Hello fellow brides!

I am a Wisconsin girl born & raised - my fiancé is Australian! We met while I was studying abroad in 2016. We are planning our wedding for May 8, 2021 in the USA. We are living in Australia at this time, but will be moving to Florida come next year. We have started the gruesome visa process. I’m looking for any fellow brides who are in the same boat as us to bounce ideas off of, support and be supported!
Thanks so much for dropping in x

International bride here! I'm German and my FH is American. I already have my K-1 visa, but currently can't travel to the US because I am NOT considered close family as a fiancé. What visa are you applying for?

    Hi Fenja!
We’re applying for the k-1! I just sent out the I-129F. One of the main things I’m stressed about it that 6 month time frame we have to be married in. Since our wedding is in May 2021 I’m worried that our visa will get accepted too soon forcing us to go there too early.

You can slow down the process a little in between the NVC stage and the visa interview and the consulate. As you probably know, once the petition is approved it is valid for four months, but if you are unable to get all the paperwork in on time you can extend that timeframe (each consulate has different requirement as to the process of extending, I had to send in a new Letter of Intend). You can always do that (that's what we did anyways).

I’m Brazilian and my FH is American, the wedding is gonna be in the US but I’m currently in Br waiting for my K-1 visa. Our case was received on Dec 3rd but idk how long it’ll take now since there’s the virus going on. ☹️

We also met during study abroad! He is from the UK and I moved back over to do my masters a few years after we met. We got married and then we could apply for our family visa easily since I was already in the country. I’m definitely nervous for when we eventually apply for a visa to come back to the US as our lives, assets and income is now non-US based. I think that might be a challenge! Best of luck with everything Smiley smile
