Intermittent Fasting??

Carol, on August 13, 2018 at 10:43 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 22
Hey everyone! Im about 25ish pounds down since i started trying to lose weight- i kinda fell off being super healthy the past 4 weeks- i really am hoping to lose another 7-8 pounds in the next 25 days (😱😱😱) before my wedding.

Im researching intermittent fasting- has anyone tried this?? I was looking at the style where you eat for 4 days of the week and fast for 3... So i wouldn't eat monday, Wednesday, Friday... Does anyone know from experience if this is effective?? And any tips and tricks? Of course i know i need to excersise and such!

TIA! 💕

My fiance does this, but not to that extent. I personally couldn't not eat for full days. I'd be exhausted, wouldn't be productive at work or home, and I'd get migraines. He fasts from 8 PM - 12 PM. So 16 hours. We just eat dinner by 8 PM and his next meal is the following day for lunch. He seems to like it. He's working out a lot too, but he's getting in great shape regardless what it's from.

My FMIL did this and lost a lot of weight very quickly. To the point where it makes me wonder about how healthy it is to do...

Fasting makes your body store fat because it is starving, not lose it. And you cant exercise and fast, you will likely pass out from not having any calories to fuel your workout.

I do!!! I’ve lost almost 30 pounds so far! However, i eat two meals during the day! High protein! And I eat **** cals a day! I eat a high protein breakfast -skip lunch- and eat a high protein dinner with lots of good carbs! I enjoy it, and it has helped my relationship with food! I fast between 8-10 hours a day and that’s it! I don’t skip out on a full 24. It’ll make me binge and if you do skip a full 24 hrs, that’s what you’ll body will want to do is binge! So I don’t recommend doing that! Look into how your sched falls and tweak it to what you can handle!

I also kickbox as well so I need to eat, so that’s why full 24s won’t work for me

I have not done intermittent fasting like that. I have done fasting from 9pm-1pm. It was kind of hard because I like running/working out in the morning. It's hard to work out on an empty stomach. I have thought about going back though and just doing a shorter amounet of time for fasting or just not eating after a certain time at night.

Oh my best friend does this but she eats every day she just limits herself. She only eats from 12pm-8pm, not later and not before. So basically she skips breakfast and then she doesn't eat anything after 8pm. I believe you're still able to drink coffee in the mornings and other things, I haven't looked too much into it but she is down 10 pounds in 2 weeks!

Another friend does a fast that is way more extreme. He basically goes on an organic juice diet for a week. He said the 1st day you're hungry, wanting solid foods, the second day you're in a bad mood, the 3rd day you're in pain because your body is extracting all of the bad toxins from your body and you are just sore all over, then the days following that you feel amazing like you can a marathon! He does it to "re-program" his body and re-introduce foods to eat healthier and get the toxins out. He also loses crazy amounts of weight and feels amazing afterwards.

How long have you been doing it for? And do you do the 8-16 version daily?

I’ve been doing it since late May - early June!! I don’t recommend eating less than **** cals a day! Especially if you work out. You’re body will start to store fat then, instead of losing it! You just have to see how your schedule falls and what may work for you! Every body type is different!

I've been eating one meal a day for several months. Fasting does not make your body store fat, that's a myth. It's a very comfortable way to lose weight. You stop getting headaches after the first few days. My weight loss hasn't been super fast- about 1-2 pounds per week. But there are many other health benefits too that I won't go into because this post could get very long lol. I recommend watching some videos of Dr Jason Fung, as he can explain it better than I can.

I'm not sure where you got that information but it is incredibly incorrect. Intermiten fasting is a type of diet where you only eat for certain hours of the day (normally you start with a 6 or 8 hour period where you can eat, and you don't eat outside of those hours). My best friend is seeing a personal trainer for her weight training and he recommended this to her. So she only eats between 9am-5pm for example and never before or after, and she eats super well balanced protein heavy meals to stay full.

You should NEVER skip entire days of eating. That is NOT healthy and no good dietician, PT or Dr will recommend that to you. I suggest you speak to someone qualified rather then getting informaiton off the the internet. Especially a dietician or trainer who can help you construct a meal plan so you are doing this in the healthiest manner.

Instead of fasting, try replacing 2 meals a day with a protein shake?! I did that for 10 days and went down a whole pant size. And I’ve included meals back in and I’m maintaining...although I’m working out and doing something active every day and I’m eating healthier (but I do have my glass of vino if I want it).

I don’t do a full 24 but I do try to not eat for 10-12 hrs a day. If I eat dinner at 6, I don’t eat anything else until the next day at 10-11. Works well for me. I also work out every day (running, spin, yoga, weights) and I’ve never had a problem with energy levels.

Ive actually been eating this way for years, because that’s just what works best for my body. I didn’t even know it was a thing until the last year or so when it became so popular in the media.

I have done the 24 hour fasts but with controls in place & its more to reset my system, nothing I do all the time. I do intermittent fasting daily, I spoke to my nutritionist and trainer and both said it was fine, I eat between 11-7 everyday.

Ive done the Intermittent fasting for a while now and yes it works but that isn't how its done. I have an eating window. when I first started my window was 8 hours meaning if I started eating at noon I had to stop eating by 8pm. Ive done it for a while as I previously stated and my eating window is currently 4 hours, on weekdays (while at work) I eat noon to 4pm and during the weekends when Im more active and sleep later my window times vary.

You can fast many types of ways but I would suggest if you do want to fast 3 days consecutive and 4 days regular, do a mono on the 3 days you fast. Like eat only 1 type of food like apples or oranges on the 3 days instead. [I did oranges and I actually loved it!] That way you can have as many oranges as you like on those days but your body will still respond like you're water fasting. Just make sure the other 4 days you are strict with 2-3 main meals [and 2 snacks like fruit, nuts or yogurt] being mainly veggies and a good protein like chicken breast or salmon filets. I did that for a month and lost 12 lbs. This isn't really sustainable unless you don't mind eating the same things all the time so I wouldn't recommend this as a long term plan.

My fiancé has been doing this for a bit and it works well for him. He only eats between the hours of 12pm and 8pm. He eats fairly low carb. I’m having a hard time losing so I’ve actually just decided to give it a go. Since we’re doing it together we’ve decided to move the eating window from 11am to 7pm. I’m going to try and stay around 1700 healthy/balanced calories. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works for me!

I'm doing it too, I just started. I'm doing it similarly to you where I'm fasting Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Although I heard it's not good to go the full 24 hrs. You want the fasting to be at 12-16 hour spurts so your hormones don't get off balance from excessive hunger! It's good to eat a substantial nutrient-rich breakfast on the days you fast so you have something in your system for that day and you have those 12-16 hours to work off those calories.

For me it's most effective to eat dinner at 6 and then not eat again until 11-12 the next day. So I'm not skipping days I'm just letting 18 hours pass between meals. Also no snacks between lunch and dinner.

I think the multiple days of not eating can get tricky for your body. It could start to store all of the food it gets as fat (at least I think), so that it doesn't starve.

You could try intermittent fasting by only eating 8 hours out of the day 11am-7pm or whatever you choose, but you eat all of the necessary calories during that time, every day.

What I did was a small calorie restricted diet until I got to my ideal weight. But 8lbs in 3 weeks is tough. Drink lots of water, stick with high protein and good fats and as few carbs as possible. Stay away from processed foods and eat as much whole foods as you can (veggies, restrict fruit if you can). 5 small meals a day, if you eat carbs eat them in the morning or at lunch no later than 2pm. Carbs are consumed to burn and give you energy, you don't really need sustained energy boosts after 2pm. And always eat whole grain carbs.

Here's a post about a girl 2 weeks out from her wedding and what she ate Blogpost. It's tough but doable if you have the willpower.
