I have a separate insurance policy for my jewelry. I got it from State Farm which is where I have all my other policies.

Do it now! They are typically very cheap. I got mine through State Farm as well and it was super easy.

You'll need to get the ring appraised first so your insurance company knows what amount to cover it for. You can find an appraiser through the American Gem Society on their website.

You can do it through your homeowners insurance (or renters) or through a jewelry company. In some cases you can add a 'rider' to your insurance to cover it. Take your appraisal with you if you already have it--I know my insurance agent asked for mine.

Mine's insured through Lavalier. They work with Brilliant Earth, the company my ring is from.

I insured mine via jewelers mutual as soon as I got home from the trip where we got engaged. I lost a watch that was very special to me last year, and I never want to feel that way again! JM was super easy, cost effective, and great customer service.

You should insure through a jewelry insurance company, not your home insurance. The quality of the coverage is much higher. Super easy to replace and they replace the total value of the ring, not part of it. We chose jewelers mutual. They also allow you to chose your jeweler! Trust me on this one.

Mine is through USAA. We put it on a separate rider policy that covers the ring away from your home and it also covers loss of stones from the mounting. The homeowners or renters only covers fire theft flood from your house.

It is very inexpensive to add jewelry riders and soooo worth it.

    Good luck

Mine is through geico. We added it as a rider to the policy. It was appraised first and I insured it about a week after I was engaged

We went through his homeowners insurance. Had to take it to an appraiser than take that to the insurance company.

It was important for me to have it covered for being stolen (I work in dangerous areas of the community) as well as being covered if I lose it.

Insure them immediately!! My FH insured my engagement ring before he even proposed to me. We did our insurance through our homeowners insurance.

Another voice saying to insure your ring immediately!! I have a personal article policy for my engagement ring. Homeowners insurance only covers jewelry up to a certain amount, ours covers up to $1,500 or $2,000 (can't remember exactly)... that would not cover my engagement ring and would definitely not cover my e-ring and other jewelry I own. Our wedding bands do not have separate policies on them because they would be covered under our homeowners policy.

ETA: Our personal article policy for my e-ring is through State Farm. Just contact your insurance agent!

Something ELSE I didn't know, surprise surprise. Our homeowner's insurance is with American Family, and I can't find anything about "personal article" like State Farm has. Anyone with AmFam know the best way to insure an e-ring with them?

I insured mine the day we bought it. Don't wait until after the wedding.

I went with State Farm for my ering, they had the best rate with no deductible, and had a better track record then some of the other jewelry specific insurance companies I looked into.
