Insulin pump

Chloe, on February 20, 2017 at 6:40 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Any other diabetic brides have ideas on how to deal with insulin pumps (with tubing) and wedding dresses. I only wear short dresses currently and so my pump is usually in a garter holster which isn't really that much of an issue but my wedding dress is long and with a fuller skirt. I can't really do what I usually do cause I don't want to have to be lifting up my skirt or leaving my reception to give my self necessary insulin during my wedding. Any advice??!

Depending on bra situation you maybe able to hide it there. I'm looking at the same ideas depending on the dress I get

I agree with pp! Pockets! Before my pump broke, I talked to my endo and I was going to get pockets sewn in. You could also wear the inset on your upper arm and have a pocket sewn in by your bust or upper back. Or you could also go back to shots for 24 hours. Hope this helps! What kind of pump do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

@Emily L. I have a tslim x2 and I like I'm not going back to shots because I would mean starting on all new meds (before my pump I was on type 2 meds even though I have almost no pancreas function) which sounds like too much experimenting for one day like that

I see! I've heard nothing but awesome things about that pump! Smiley smile But oh man! I agree that going back on the shots is too much of a hassle, in general. (Had to go back because my pump broke and its been 6 months of figuring things out again!) But I thought I'd throw it out there because that's one thing my endo had suggested when I asked. I wish you the best of luck and awesome blood glucose numbers!

I agree with most, some pockets would be the most sensible solution. Definitely worth a conversation with your seamstress. I hope everything works out. This is obviously something you don't want to stress about on your wedding day. Best of luck!!

@Emily L. Its just like the regular tslim but they are integrating with dexcom g5 this year so you just have the pump and no reviecer. And yeah sounds like it

I used to be on the pump and I was going to have my seamstress sew in a pocket. When I tried on my dress, I clipped it in the center of my bra and you couldn't see it at all. It wasn't the most comfortable option and that'll only work depending on the style of your dress. Good luck!!

ETA if it's a full enough skirt, you might just be able to wear some spanx and clip it to the top of those like you would any other pair of pants. I used to do jay all the time and it worked like a charm if the skirt was full enough

ETA 2: I wouldn't be too concerned f you have to leave to go to the bathroom for a moment to give yourself insulin!

@Chloe Oh cool! I have the G5 Dexcom and was thinking about going with Animus Vibe, but I've seen a lot of positive stuff for the X2. I really like the design of it!

Thanks for posting. I was wondering what I was going to do with mine! Going to stick mine in my bra since I have a corset top (so no place to put a pocket) on my dress.
