Instead of a Father daughter dance

Jam, on January 9, 2022 at 6:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
I am trying to think of some ideas to replace a father daughter dance.

My father has a serious drug problem and unfortunately I cannot invite him to my wedding. Throughout my life I have been blessed to have 4 uncles who have each played significant and different roles in my life at different times.

My FH will dance with his mother.
I have thought about either (1) skipping the father daughter dance altogether or (2) dancing with each uncle (one after another) to a song that fits each relationship.
I am concerned that dancing with ALL of the uncles may appear to "cheapen" the honor and make it feel less special for each of them.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Thank you

I think it would be lovely to dance with all four, but I do think 4 different songs will be an extremely long time and potentially will lose your guests' interest.

Could you segue the songs one into another after 30-60 seconds an uncle? Or do one song, and have each one step in at a set point in the song?

I agree that multiple songs might seem a bit drawn out, but I think it would be wonderful to have a song and have each of them “cut in” so they each get a turn.

This is what I was going to suggest. My sister did something similar at her wedding. During one doing the 3 sets of parents cut in and out between the bride and groom. That's a little different but same idea.

Great idea, maybe the DJ can help me to find a way to fade the songs and I can just send each uncle off with a kiss at the end of their part. Thank you

4+ songs is a lot and guests will tune out waiting to be able to dance themselves. Can you have the songs you want mixed in with the rest of the dancing? It’s very common to skip parent dances and guests won’t be upset if you don’t have them.
