Instax/Polaroid Camera

Penguinlove, on November 21, 2016 at 11:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Anyone incorporate an instant camera into their reception?

I've seen a lot of ideas on pinterest, but I wanted to see if anyone actually has done this and seen it work in some way.

I already own an Instax, I would just need to purchase more film.

Personally...Not that fond of polaroid cameras. For instant pictures Id opt for a photobooth.

Hi Penguinlove! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters.

I feel like nowadays guests would be way more likely to take a picture on their phone! You could come up with a wedding hashtag or download a photo-sharing app like WedSocial to share pictures!

Were having a polaroid at our wedding. We have been inquiring film little by little. It's saving us compared to getting a photo booth. The cheapest quote we got was $500 and I just don't want to spend the money on it so we're going to have a little area with the camera. Smiley smile

I am a big fan of InstaxMini8. With that said, I would recommend putting someone in charge of the InstaxMini/Polaroid station. No matter how many directions you give or signs you post, people will just do what they want. I used an InstaxMini8 for my engagement dinner and my lil brother 15 yrs old had a great time snapping pics of family and friends throughout the night. I originally had my friend/bridesmaid volunteer, but after noticing my lil brother following her around to help, we decided that he had more interest in it. I didn't have a photo station btw. Also, I noticed that my guests wanted to keep some photos for themselves, so I told my brother to take 2 if that was the case.

My friend recently had an instant camera as part of her guest book. It was cute, but it took us a minute or two to figure out how to work the camera. Plus, since there as only one folks had to come back around to it or else there would have been a bit of a traffic jam at the table. My fiance liked the idea, though, so we are thinking about how to maybe make it work for us.

My FSIL is using an Instax to document her pre-wedding events. Like trying on dresses, finding 'the one', the bachelorette party, moments at the shower, etc. It's all going into a little memory book! Smiley smile

A friend of mine just recently did something like this for her guest book. She had someone that would take everyone's picture as they came through and tape it to the book and the person would write their note next to it. It was cute, but there were a lot of people waiting in the line because it took awhile.

Are you having kids at your wedding? The film can be pricey and kids will likely go through it quickly, especially if left unattended.

Thanks everyone. We were thinking about sending pictures with our thank you notes. I guess I would have to designate one person to take some pictures.

We are only having two kids, a 3 yr old and a baby, so kids aren't an issue.

I'd make sure if you just leave it at a station / not supervised, you have super specific directions on how to add film.

Also, a note of warning I guess? Pictures get kind of tricky on those cameras in low light and don't always come out that great.

@Mrs. Thanks for the warning! I think it will be plenty bright, since there are a ton of windows and its in the afternoon, plus there should be snow on the ground. But you never know..... We'll try to test it out first.

My mom is all about this idea as a guest book. I found a few cute books. Sams Club is having a special on film I think for black friday!

If you haven't got the the camera yet, use a coupon and do michaels or a.c moore if you have them in your area. I think there might be some deals on the camera itself this week on various sites for black friday! The price of all the stuff can really add up.

I'm letting my mom run with this, I was at a loss for a guest book and if this is what she wants to do, I'm cool with it. Thought a photo album might actually get looked at later.

I also really liked the idea of someone taking charge of it. My sister is 15 and really in to photography so this might be a fun way to include her.

Another thought could be a selfie station. Grab a few selfie sticks and maybe a portable printer. Just brainstorming Smiley smile

Thanks for the suggestions! For my guest book I'm doing something where each person/couple will get a page to fill in with fun questions. Like "Your best marriage advice", "Date ideas", "Favorite memory", etc. Maybe I could paste the Instax pictures on the pages too!

Selfie station would be cool, except almost all of my guests are older, so they are not into selfies.

One person coming is 17, maybe she could be in charge of the Instax!

@OG, honestly I'm not sure that she will even come because she will be bored with the people there. But I will see if she will come and take pictures as a favor to me, or even for some pay. She is a very close family friend, so its really not a big deal. And if she says no, its not a big deal either.

My lil brother did not mind taking pictures. He is kind of a shy teen, but with the camera in front of him he seemed to be enjoying himself and socializing. He also took some selfies and from the photos he looks like he was having a great time. As brides, we know our family and friends best, so stick to your gut and if asking isn't going to hurt anyone then I do not see the problem.
