Insecure about dress and alterations

I loved my dress initially and the David’s Bridal saleswoman pinned the shoulders up and really made it look good initially. Now at my alterations appointment I’m 5 pounds heavier and I feel like it looks so dumpy. The alterations woman didn’t lift the shoulders at all so I feel like my chest looks saggy and like it doesn’t even fit my top half. Wondering if anyone else has had regrets and feelings of self-doubt and insecurity at their alterations appointment? Wedding is a little over a month away and I feel defeated and like an ugly bride.

You should tell your seamstress about how you want the shoulders and how you would like your chest area lifted a bit. If they don’t want to do it, call around and fine a different seamstress.

I agree with Kate - you need to communicate with your seamstress to ensure you get what you want!

Also, don't feel bad. I also felt a bit deflated at my second-to-last fitting. I'd put on some weight over Christmas, so whilst my dress fit, it was a bit tighter than I wanted. Because she'd taken in the waist, it impacted where the sleeves sat, so they were constantly sliding down. I was hoping my veil (that the seamstress is making) would be ready, but it seemed like she'd forgotten about it altogether, and I'm just praying she remembers it for my next (and final!) fitting. And to top it off, my two bridesmaids came with me to have their dresses altered (so I know they were focussing on something else, but...) it was the first time they'd seen the dress altered in the flesh and I was hoping for a bit more of a reaction than I got.

Overall I walked out feeling a bit down about it all. But I'm sure it will all come together on the day! And you need to push for what you want - I wanted a bigger hoop under my dress, and I wanted a sash sewn onto the dress. My alterations lady isn't a fan of either of those things, but she's not the one getting married, and in 40 years I don't want to regret not asking for what *I* wanted out of fear of upsetting her or hurting her feelings, you know?

Tell her to lift the shoulders! Maybe she can sew in push up cups as well ?

I still remember your dress from a prior post and I am sorry that your BM didn’t make you feel stunning, because I assure you, you are stunning in the gown.

@OP, make sure you are clear with your needs. If you don’t feel you can do this, bring someone who is more forward with you, so they can advocate on your behalf.

I love this gown - but definitely tell your seamstress what you want.

I promise you will not upset her - she'd rather you be happy with her work than feeling "meh"

@Rosie - I am very scared for my "try on" this weekend - it came sooner than I expected and with more holiday pounds than I expected as well. Sorry your BMs made you feel less than spectacular - they were probably very focused on their own dresses

From the photos, I like how this dress fits on you. I think it highlights your figure.

Im also going to add, youre the only person who will notice a 5lb difference. In reality, you look no different than when you were 5 lbs smaller. Our brains are weird, and while you may not be feeling great about the extra weight, normal people fluctuate that in a day based on how much they eat, water consumed, water retained from working out, menstrual cycles, etc. So focus on the alterations that are wrong. Your body is truly no different with only 5 lbs than it was when you tried it on and loved it.
