Inner Envelope vs Belly Band

Kelsey_Ann, on July 15, 2016 at 10:31 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

Hey everyone. I'm getting ready to send invites out. I cannot for the life of me figure out how I want to keep the invite suite together. I think there are too many options and I just love paper and invites so I think I'm overwhelmed. And, I know that belly bands are not necessary, nor are inner envelopes.

I was thinking about making the belly band serve the purpose that the inner envelope would and customize it for each guest. So basically the belly band would have the names of those invited on it.

I know its technically up to me, but would that be super weird? I just wanted to ask for my own piece of mind, I know its kind of a dumb question.

I also love paper and stationary and really wanted inner envelopes and envelope liners, but in the end I decided it wasn't worth the extra cost. Personally, I find belly bands a little silly and they can still add to your postage cost due to weight and thickness.

But to answer your question, I don't think it would be silly to write guests' names on the belly band.

I love the idea of the belly band. We didn't get them because of price options, but I think they're a great idea. I tried to forego the inner envelopes, but then told my mom (she's paying) after the fact and she freaked...so i had to reorder them. Just run it by anyone who may care!

The only thing with the belly band is if you need to list a lot of names for a household, it could get weird with spacing. I'm doing inner envelopes, so I have enough space for adding multiple children.

I considered writing names on a belly band in lieu of an inner envelope. In the end we did inner envelopes instead because 1. Some household's names would not have fit on the band and 2. We couldn't have printed on the band; it would have had to be done by hand. Printing was more cost effective than hiring a calligrapher, and there was no way in hell we were doing it ourselves.

Spin off question, mostly out of curiosity.... Why are you sending them so early?

@MrsToBe my cousin is getting married October 1 and they sent out invites a month ago. They just got engaged in April, so that's why they sent them out so early. We are getting ready to send out invites the first week of August

Thanks for all the advice! I have a paper cutter so I would just print it on cardstock and cut the bands to the width needed. Plus, we aren't inviting kids so the households should only be 1-3 people max.

@mrstobe, at this point I'm just getting one invite fully ready to go so I can order proper postage. I plan on sending them the first week of August since 90% of our guests are out of town Smiley smile
