Inner envelope questions

Marina, on January 2, 2020 at 4:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Our invitations came with inner envelopes. I am being very specific with how I address outer envelopes (listing out all names of those invited, no use of "family") do I still need to also list their names on the inner envelopes as well? We also have "__ seats in your honor" on our RSVP card to avoid any additional confusion.

My second question - I'm using printed out address labels for our outer envelopes. If I do need to put names on the inner envelopes, can I use printed labels for that as well or is that considered rude?

Thank you!

Usually, the outer envelope is for the more formal name of the invitees, as in "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith." Then the inner envelope would have the less formal names for these people, as in "Uncle John and Aunt Mary" OR Outer: The Smith Family and Inner: Uncle John, Aunt Mary, Susie and David (kids).

I think address labels are perfectly fine. It's what I'm doing. You can use them all over, I don't think there's any etiquette rule about that. If you have a high guest count, you want to save yourself some work by not having to hand-address 100 invitations!

We didn't include inner envelopes, just RSVP envelopes. I would address the outer & inner envelope the exact same to avoid confusion. I think using labels for the outer envelope & hand writing the inner envelope is common!

I think I'm going to address mine the same for both the outer and inner since we aren't inviting kids so I don't want family to be misleading. Thank you! Are you using the address labels on your inner envelopes too?

I was showing kids on the inner as an example. You should still only address all envelopes to those who are invited.
Yes I'll probably do the labels on the inner envelope as well. That way everything matches and I can actually get it done a lot faster than handwriting everyone's names.
