Inherited wedding set

Elizabeth, on January 14, 2018 at 9:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
My grandmother passed away recently and my dad and uncle decided to give me her wedding set. I absolutely love her set and am honored they asked me to use it as my set, but it doesn't go with my engagement ring at all. Her set is welded together, so I have to use them together and I can't just use the wedding band. I absolutely love my engagement ring and plan on ways wearing it, but I'm not sure what to do with it after the wedding. Even if I wore both the set and my ring on the same finger, it's too large and one will end up falling off. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do with the rings? One thought is to wear the ring on a different finger or hand, but I'm not sure which one or if there's a protocol for this type of thing. Thanks for the help!!

Have you talked to a jeweler about adapting it?

You should speak with a jeweler. You can take apart soldered rings and they would be able to tell you if this is possible for this particular set. You could also consider wearing her set on your right ring finger and your e-ring on your left hand or switching your e-ring to your right hand after the wedding and using her set as your wedding ring.

A jeweler can most likely unweld the rings if you want to wear one as your band. I wear my grandmothers wedding band on my right hand. I wanted to wear it as my wedding band but the style doesn’t match my engagement ring very well. I’m having the diamonds from her engagement ring turned into a necklace.

My mom died three years ago and she gave me her wedding rings. The rings are fitted when worn together. Or they could be worn separately .I love my engagement ring which is my favorite color pink. So I wear the band as a enhancer. And will give my daughter my moms engagement ring.

Vintage jewelry is amazing. Take it to a jeweler and see what they can do

A jeweler should be able to help you with this. They can either unsolder the rings so you can wear the band with your engagement ring or use them to recreate something new that fits better with your ring. My FH's late grandma left him a pair of diamond earrings to use for his fiancee's wedding ring and they are able to use them to form a band. It's just an idea if you are open to recreating the jewelry.

I agree with others. Go see a jeweler. Maybe get it reset?

I'd definitely talk to a local jeweler about what they can do with the ring! They may be able to separate the set, or have suggestions on how to reuse the stone with a new setting, or how to make it work with your engagement ring!
