Inform guests of postponed wedding

arkady82, on September 20, 2017 at 4:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

So our wedding was supposed to take place 9/16, but had to be postponed because of hurricane Irma. Our church got power two days before the wedding, but the A/C did not work. It is impossible to have a September wedding in Miami without A/C so we decided to postpone. Needless to say, it's been a tough few days. Today we finally picked a new date. I am just wondering how to let all our guests know of the new wedding date. What would you guys prefer as a guest in this situation? An email? Simple card in the mail? Word of mouth? Anything else I have not thought of? New wedding date is February 10.

I think something in the mail would be nice.

    But I love getting mail.

Why don't you go ahead and send something in the mail like a postcard and then follow up with an email to everyone? A date change is probably enough to warrant both.

You sound like you're staying as positive as could be expected! So sorry that happened and hope you're getting back on your feet.

I agree. A card in the mail would be nice! Like another invitation, sort of.

Minted does "petite" invites as well for a pretty reasonable price.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to make the best of it. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster, especially since we couldn't get an earlier date. I do think we did the right thing by postponing, though. Miami wasn't hit hard, but people were still affected and I don't think anyone was in the right state of mind for a wedding. Looks like a mini invite or postcard is the way to go!

You are in Miami? Why not post cards! Cute tourist ones with the city on it. You can just add a little something about Irma backing up your plans and the new date.

Do you have a wedding website? I think you definitely need to do a card. If you don't already have a wedding website do one and include the web address on the card w/ the new date. That way people have a place they can go to look for any updated details about the wedding.

I agree with @OG, I'd do more than just one form of communication. I'd mail a card with the new date and a yes no box if the guest will still be able to come.

    Cute idea @Rebecca!

@Kiera I never got around to finishing my website but I think I will and include it in the postcard.

    Thanks again guys!

You could go through paper invitations again... or just do it via a wedding website or paperless post.

Postcards are good, but make sure they know the RSVP cut off for the new date, and how to confirm with you.

I am sorry that you've had to go through this, but really happy there is light at the end of the tunnel!

I would agree that with that much delay, another invitation would be in order. You could create a postcard that looks like a full invitation. But whatever you send it needs to have all the updated information that the original invitation had. And if you do that you may as well put it in an invitation format.

Maybe an email save the date and then a card in the mail later when you can catch your breath a bit.

I'm so sorry you have to do this, I would go with mail, its easiest and most likely fastest if you have out of towners and this way you can focus on other things instead of waiting for replys
