Inexpensive disposable plates/napkins/cutlery?

Little Star, on May 7, 2018 at 2:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 18
Hello everyone! I got the estimate for catering this past weekend and it had me like 😱😱😱 It was wayyy more than I had originally planned. Anyway, the catering company does provide disposable plates, napkins, & cutlery for $1/pp. We are expecting around 65 guests plus ourselves and the photographer. Also I’m not even sure if that covers plates for the cake! Anyway, I felt that was a little steep for disposables but perhaps I’m wrong? Does anyone know of a website I can order from that’s a bit cheaper? We are allowed to bring in our own dishes if we like. I thought this would be a good way to save a bit of money. I’ve checked out webstaurant but it seems like after it’s all said and done it would be the same price.

Costco has nice plastic plates also. My FH familiar these every year for meals over big holidays like Thanksgiving. They are nice and sturdy, but cheap enough that no one has problems throwing them out after the meal.

Do you have a membership at Sam's Club? If so, they have some that would save you a little money.

I think you’ll be hard pressed to find good quality plates, cutlery and napkins for 65 for less than $65. Remember, you need more than one set per person. Are you having a cocktail hour? You need plates and cutlery for that as well. Ask the caterer so specify exactly what they are proving and how many of each. Then you can truly compare prices. Frankly, if you save anything it probably won’t be enough to make it worth the headache.

I can't imagine you would be able to get quality disposable plates and cutlery for less than that. Honestly, I'd wonder about the quality the caterer is using at that price.

This isn’t worth the trouble to me. Just use their stuff, I’m sure they have it down to a science and plan for extras. Ask them about cake plates.

We we are talking about $65 here, I know every dime counts but this is a wise spend.

Unless you can find free shipping, shipping alone would take up a big chunk of that $65. $1 pp from the caterer is a good deal and less stress on you.

We ordered our plates off of webstrauntstore.com. I got our napkins at ikea for like 79 cents a package so that was a good deal. Our silverware was kinda expensive I spent about $60 on it but it is the disposable kind that looks real. I got it from homegoods.

We used disposable and it was perfectly fine! If the food is good I don't know how much people notice the plates

Sam's Club has huge boxes of disposables for pretty cheap! That's where we're getting ours from.

If you have a membership to a wholesaler store like Sam's Club, Costco, or BJ's, there are nice disposable plates and cutlery. There are often different package sizes too. They will all likely have more than just 65 you need for your guests, but it is often helpful to have a few extra in case. You can always take the rest home! Happy planning!
