INDOOR/OUTDOOR WEDDING?

Private User, on February 3, 2016 at 2:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Has anyone had an indoor/outdoor wedding? I am hosting my wedding at a plantation home and am thinking of having the following:

Ceremony under the oaks in the front lawn of the house

cake, buffet style food, bar, and cocktail hour inside the house

dancing and food and games in the backyard of the home

We will have 68 guests. My question is has anyone had this type of wedding before and did they have any issues with guests going inside and outside for food and drinks? Was also contemplating leaving the bar outside and having food inside but then that leaves me with why keep the cocktail hour outside. Thoughts? I want my guests to enjoy their time and not be put out! Thank you

We do this all the time, but what is the weather like in, um three weeks where you are?

We had a patio that was open all night....? I would figure out where things are going and a weather backup plan. Will there be seating by the dance floor for those who want to be involved but don't want to dance? Will people need to go to the bar outside to get drinks during dinner inside (I think it's inside? You list food in both places). Basically this would work more like a house party (people moving from room to room, mingling) than a formal dinner which is totally fine but it'll change the vibe a little.

I've been at events and weddings where this worked well. The venue staff will know better than you what setups keep the best flow of traffic without bottlenecks - consult them first.

And have a bad weather backup.

We had our ceremony outside. Cocktail hour inside and outside the castle and then the reception was under a tent in the courtyard. People mingled and moved to wherever the food and bar were.

Shouldn't you have this figured out since you get married in less than 3 weeks?

I guess I had an indoor/outdoor wedding. Ceremony was outside, dinner was under a tent, dancing and cake were inside. The bar was on the deck of the building. People spent the reception under the tent, on the deck and lawn, and inside.

I would just make sure to keep the outdoor part of the reception near the house so it's not inconvenient for people to get to all the different parts of your wedding.

Yes, to clarifiy it is a brunch wedding so rather informal. the main seating would be outside with heaters in case it is chilly (projecting 65-70 degree weather). I wanted to keep the food indoors and have people go in and get it just because I personally don't like the idea of it sitting out but I can change that. The wedding is mid day. The ceremony will include a coffee bar and donuts while people wait and then they can go inside and get drinks, then outside to eat and dance. There is a weather backup, we can fit everyone inside the house if weather is bad but we would have to split into three rooms so id prefer to have it outside so everyone can be together.

That sounds fine. Are there steps or anything like that that would make going in and out for food difficult or inconvenient for any guests? Not a huge deal but something to consider.

No steps, there is a ramp for anyone elderly, so that should be rather simple and it is a compact location. We were originally holding everything inside but the venue suggested we move outside due to space, they thought it may be more comfortable for guests given the lay out of the place now that we have our full guest list back, so now we are relooking at our wedding layout (in reference to the three week question- im fully aware of my wedding date, thanks for that input).
