Indoor Wedding Games

Samantha, on November 17, 2021 at 1:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
In all of the planning I haven't really thought about indoor entertainment for guests after dinner! Besides the shoe game, what are some fun ideas that aren't costly but will keep guests entertained and not bored? No photobooths please.

I’ve been to many weddings that didn’t have dancing. Typically guests were thrilled to be able to catch up with each other and chat the entire time so no one was bored at all. They went to another location after and continued chatting for several more hours. With people being separated due to the ongoing pandemic, guests will love to catch up. Never seen games outside of YouTube so it’s a know your crowd thing.

I went to a wedding once where the couple played a version of the newlywed game

Talking, dancing, drinking, laughing and mingling at weddings IS entertaining. What length of time are you trying to fill? I never understood the idea of trying to keep guests from being “bored” at a wedding when it’s a naturally good time already if there’s good food, good music and good people present. Also, at receptions, people enjoy having time to talk and take pics without the constant interruptions for activities to focus on.

I went to a wedding where they had some really interesting stuff.

they had something like a mad libs book of advice for newlyweds that went around to each table. each guest picks a page and writes in it e.g. like "don't argue when _______"

I agree - drinks and mingling is more than enough!! The shoe game is always a big hit so that will be fun!

Besides that you could do an interactive guest book, and set up some photos of you as a couple or do a photo slideshow!

Not sure if this is the kind of thing that you are looking for, but we met a wedding planner who suggested renting large games (giant jenga, bags/cornhole, etc.) if you have the space for it. It gives guests something to do while mingling!

If left to their own devices, typically the only people who get bored at weddings are boring people. As long as people are fed and kept comfortable, most people can entertain themselves.

I actually think forcing guests endure long stretches of spectating non-participatory wedding events (such as watching 20 minutes of choreographed dancing or listening to six different drawn-out wedding speeches) or requiring them to participate in things they are not interested in (such as a bouquet toss or wedding game) are more likely to turn off your guests than just having ample food and drinks available and an inviting space for guests to mingle in with some appropriate music that isn't overly loud. More often than not I don't want to be entertained, I just want to be free to have fun.

Definitely don’t stress yourself out trying to figure out ways to keep guests from being bored. Like others have suggested - mingling, catching up, good food and good music keeps most guests happy. You know your crowd more than anyone else so just go off you and how you want your vibe off your wedding. I’ve seen people have board games, little cards at the tables for guests to fill out advice for the couple to read on their anniversary, someone drawing caricatures for guests, tarot/palm readings, live paintings, paint by number, etc.
