Indoor Reception Activities

Analie, on March 5, 2020 at 9:50 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

Hello all,

My fiance and I will be having an indoor reception in may but have taken out some key components such as bouquet toss and garter toss. What are some other reception ideas that we can incorporate in 5 1/2 hours?

Dancing normally takes 1-2 hours of a reception

Dinner, dancing, cocktails? You have thanking people or a welcome prayer, then toast from MOH and BM, maybe toast by parents? Then there’s cake cutting and first dance. Special dance with parents if you want. Then get the party started with dancing, mingling, enjoying your guests. Take picture. Photo booths? The dj can do the show game if you think you need something else but honestly it I’ll go quick.

Exactly. Dinner, dancing and drinking. We’ve got 5 1/2 hours too and are also not doing a bouquet or garter toss. Didn’t even cross my mind that people needed other activities.

Between cocktail hour, entrances, special dances, toasts, dinner, and dancing, most of your time will be taken up. As PP stated, you don’t really need activities for your guests. They will be able to keep themselves occupied by the DJ and other guests.

I agree with Meghan. Or if you want, consider photo booth maybe.

In addition to dancing, my husband and I had corn hole set up right outside of the reception hall. We got married outside on a veranda and once they cleaned up the ceremony chairs, my husband and one of his friends set up the corn hole. We had the blinds in the reception hall open so people could see outside on the veranda we got married on with the fountain on and could also see the guests outside talking or playing corn hole.

Anniversary dance is cute idea and you could give a toss bouquet to the woman married the longest. We are incorporating Greek dancing at ours (we also skipping garter toss) so if you or your partner have certain nationality aspects you would like to incorporate 🙂
