Individual Servings: Wine and Beer

Ashley, on March 13, 2021 at 10:48 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
With COVID being a thing we're trying to keep things as individually served as possible. Luckily we're doing a rustic theme with a laid back BBQ dinner so things don't have to be really formal anyways. We're using all biodegradable dinnerware and packaging our utensils in nice utensil paper bags so nothing is exposed except to guests when they open them, serving bottles/cans of soda and drinks so there's no communal dispensers or cups besides the cups we set the table with so people aren't grabbing them from a stack, beer is obviously easy and sort of normal to do in bottles, but we were looking at wine the other day and my fiance had the idea of using those individual serving size bottles versus full bottles. To me it makes sense because we don't have a lot of wine drinkers anyways and that way if we buy too much we don't have to waste leftovers (which I'm highly against wasting food stuff anyways.) Has anyone done this or seen it frowned upon? Just trying to see what thoughts are on it.

Total Wine has a bigger variety of smaller wine bottles than a grocery store - you will be able to find nice wines in half bottles and some even in single pours as well.

We were planning on maybe getting beer there anyways depending on the price versus buying it on base, so that's a great tip. Thanks!

I used to go in and try a new wine in the small bottles all the time! It was great having enough for a couple/few glasses and I would try types that I would never have if I had to buy the whole bottle.

I’ve seen wine cups too instead of small wine bottles

I think that individual wine bottles are a great idea! Beer could also be another good option to reduce risks. On another note, where did you find your biodegradable dinnerware and the packaging for your utensils? That’s awesome!

I love this idea—Total Wine should have the individual servings of wine like they serve on airplanes and probably will work with you to bulk order.
I’ve also seen mini boxes of wine that are 2-3 glasses. That may lead to wine waste, but if someone has a go-to wine type that’ll lead to less packaging waste than mini bottles.

We got our stuff on Amazon because that's the only place I found it that I could get it quickly. I got palm leaf plates that have a wood grain look so they look fancier than regular disposable plates and are stronger. The utensils are bamboo I believe and have a spoon, knife, and fork and we searched silverware sleeves and found paper ones that say "I Do BBQ" on them. I also found biodegradable cups that are used mostly for coffee (but also work for cold) so they have the rippled cardboard looking thing on the outside (if that makes sense) so they kinda match the plates. We're using gold chargers so the stuff will still look kinda fancy at the place settings.

I think I'll stop by while I'm out running errands today to check it out and it's a good point today they'll have the ones in cups for single pours that look a little higher class than the screw top bottles lol.

The ones I saw had nice labels like the regular sized bottles.
Also...maybe you could get a bunch of carafes and pour it into those, maybe cover those (pretty ribbon around clear wrap?) and set them out?

I stopped by and they have so many to choose from! And the carafe idea is great too. So many things to decide on now lol. And I have to learn what kind of wine goes with BBQ because I'm a moscato with everything type of gal.

I’n so glad! I would just get a variety of red and whites, and some Prosecco. People will prob drink what they normally drink and not care so much about matching.

That's what I'm thinking. Two reds, two whites, and something bubbly. 😊

I saw this done at an outdoor event and it was great. Was much safer and less wasteful. There are decent wines now available in individual bottles for your wine drinkers.

Definitely not frowned upon and I think it's a fantastic way to decrease waste and keep things a little safer. You could also look at the 2-3 serving wine cubes - they come in small boxes (seriously they look like juice boxes) but are actually pretty decent quality.
