Indian Weddings in 2019

MinaRed, on February 15, 2019 at 2:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

Anyone planning an Indian Wedding this year (my parents are from North India). Would love to know what ideas you're planning on incorporating that you loved from other Indian Weddings you've been to.

I think this is such a cool post, MinaRed!! Whenever I see pictures of Indian weddings, I am so intrigued and interested. The colors and traditions are so cool! Are you planning on incorporating some Indian traditions or touches into your wedding?

My wedding is in July! My fiance is Mexican, but more Indian than me. So we're doing a traditional Indian wedding with some Mexican flare. It'll be a 4+ day events to include mehendi, dances, ceremony, and reception. His family is performing songs as well as mine to make sure there equal representation. However, he insisted on wearing Indian outfits to all the events and my in laws!

I'm getting married May 2020 and we're doing the whole big indian wedding. I'm doing a haldi and mehndi but we're forgoing a sangeet. Since we're both from different cities and the ceremony will be in my city and the reception in his, we figured there would be too much back and forth to do a sangeet (also I have two left feet so I was happy to cancel anything that required me to choreographed dance). Other than that we're doing the full hindu ceremony with the baraat, fire, and hopefully some fun shoe stealing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on whether we should book a DJ or band for an Indian fusion wedding? I love live music and like the idea of a band, but I would also like a mix of Indian and western music since the guests will be of mixed cultures. Does a band exist that does a mix of Indian/western music, and are they any good? Or would a DJ be our best bet? I am in New Jersey.
