Indecisive About bm Colors

Elly, on July 29, 2022 at 5:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I am a bit unsure about going the traditional route of picking one dress color for all my bridesmaids, or being more fashion-forward by mixing and matching the colors. Currently stuck between spice (orange), moss (green) or slate (blue).

The good news: The bridesmaids like all the colors I've considered.

My Criteria:
-Mori Lee bridesmaids dresses
-Dress must be long, but leg slit is ok.

My "Hangups":
-Orange might be a little much if it is the entire party. One bridesmaid has a very fair complexion, and the color may clash with her skin tone. We don't know for sure yet. I want her to feel confident and look her best.

-Green is flattering on everyone, but it almost feels too safe.

-Blue is flattering on everyone, but having all of the bridesmaids in blue, paired with the rest of the groomsmen, and my fiancé sort of feels like being washed out in blue.

The rest of our wedding (reception, flowers, etc.) pays homage to Arizona, and the southwestern sunset.

Ex: Flowers in shades of pinks and oranges paired with eucalyptus (long, thin leaves). Teal tablecloths with either gold or copper chargers.

Has anyone done the mix and match bridesmaids? Any regrets?
If you decided against this trend, what was the deciding factor?

All 3 colors are lovely! As you mentioned the coral/orangey color may be hard for some people to pull off. I actually love the sage and coral color together if you wanted to alternate dresses. The blue is gorgeous but I d go with a different color suit if blue dresses. But do what you are your bridal party love! Happy planning!

I didn't do it for my wedding but I have seen it done and to me it a. looks very disorganized, b. doesn't look like any thought/planning really went into it and more like the bridal party just picked something from their closest to wear, and 3. can distract guests therefore taking attention from the bride and groom.

I think you could easily mix and match the coral and sage with skin tones and have it look professional. I personally did one color for mine (burgundy) but let them have 90% free reign on style. I gave them a couple criteria which included
    - show me dress before purchasing
    - must be floor length but could have respectable leg slit- preference to X fabricI did this to let them have that sense of confidence and be happy in their outfit in hopes that they’ll get more than one use out of it. Overall, I’d say skip the blue gown- it’s nice but doesn’t have the wow that the other 2 do, especially for the Arizona homage.

They are beautiful. Not everyone can wear orange as it is a warm color, the same applies for blue being a cool color. Green is neutral so anyone can wear it. Have your ladies all tried on these exact colors? Mix and match is popular on Pinterest and Instagram. Haven’t seen it in real life but do what works for you.

I absolutely love the look of mixed colour bridesmaid dresses, and it seems like you have a really good eye for colour so can't go wrong.

I decided against mismatched, let the bridesmaids buy themselves simply because of the hassle - I didn’t want to have to worry about approving their choices, making sure they find what they want to wear on time, that the styles will look good together, etc. I’ve seen many brides on here complaining about their bridesmaids procrastinating looking for a dress or impulsively buying one without asking. In theory, the mismatched sounds cool, but personally I feel it’s stressful to make happen.

You could do your MOH in one color and the bridesmaids in another. Personally, I really like the sage color. It works with your florals and the groom/ groomsmen without being the same color like the blue, and it's an easy color for everyone to pull off vs the coral.

I love mix and matches so long as there are enough people to pull it off (ideally 2 of each so 6 if you want to do all 3 colors). If you want all 3 and have 5 girls you can have your MOH in 1 color and then everyone else in one of the remaining two colors.

Please forgive the late response, but I want to thank everyone for their input. Ultimately, my fiancé and I went back to the store with more of our wedding party and decided on the green.

As much as I wanted to do all three colors, I feel it could have been pulled off if all of my bridesmaids had one dress silhouette that they liked best for all of them, and the only variation was the color.

After seeing the dresses a second time, with me in my gown, and seeing how the colors looked like with their skin tone, and next to mine, the green was the most complimentary to all.

Maybe my ring bearer will decide on a blue or orange dress!
