Incorporating Godparents in our ceremony

Kymmy Kristin, on January 20, 2014 at 2:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

I originally planned on having our Godparents read at our ceremony. However, we have a short time slot for our ceremony (30 min).

After talking with our officiant we came to the conclusion that we should choose VERY short readings or start researching other ways to include these special people in our ceremony.

Anyone have any nice ideas for this? Anything small and brief that these special people can do during the ceremony? OR any good readings that are very short, maybe only take a minute or two to read but still meaningful?

All ideas greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My Godparents are very important to me as well. Since FH has both sets of GPs and I grew up with only 1 grandpa, we want to include them all in the ceremony.

Instead of our "unity candle" or "sand ceremony" we will ask that our parents, grandparents, and sponsors (my godparents) to come up and pray around us to promise to help guide us through our marriage, lives, and continue to sponsor us through the walks of life.

(we will not be doing any readings during the ceremony, except for the passages we asked our pastor to share. FH and I both picked one to dedicate to each other)

Our pastor will have a prayer worked up, and it will be along the same lines of prayers said by sponsors at baptisms, first communions, and confirmation.

Instead of asking, "Who gives this woman in marriage?" I ask, "Who stands with this wo/man to represent her/his family and its traditions?" Then as many people as you like may answer, "We do."
