Incorporate alma mater

Amina, on October 23, 2019 at 10:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
So my FH and I are college sweethearts and met while I was still in hs while visiting Penn State (We ARE!). We were together majority of the time while there **** graduation. A good amount of our guests who are family will be Penn Staters as well and I want to find a unique way to incorporate that into our reception without going overboard. A little more context, FH was also a football letterman and we have quite a few of his letterman man teammates as groomsmen and as guests, some who are now actually in the NFL. how can we incorporate penn state/ penn state football into the reception while not taking over? Our theme is winter wonderland so I don’t want it to be a huge clash. I thought maybe an aerial shot of beaver stadium and having our psu people sign their names around it. Or when FH throws the garter, to put it around a penn state football, but my best friend and one of his old teammates did that at their wedding 2 years ago and wouldn’t want to look like we stole their idea

I love the aerial shot the stadium idea and the football with the garter idea (we're doing that too)! If you're having a photobooth, you could always have football props and ones with the Penn State logo. You could have something unique to State College or the university for your favor!

FH and I are huge Alabama football fans (I'm an alumna and he's a lifelong fan). We, also, wanted to incorporate Alabama into the wedding without clashing with our rustic glam theme and colors (pink, navy, rose gold, gold, and silver). I'm wearing an Alabama garter, we're playing the fight song & Sweet Home Alabama at the reception, our cake topper has pink glittery elephants on it (so it matches the theme & cake), FH's groom's cake will have an Alabama "A" on it, and we have a Mr. & Mrs. sign with the Alabama logo on it.

Maybe a groom's cake with your college logo on it? A themed garter? Themed favors (cookies with your college logo maybe)? If you took pictures together at graduation, you could frame & have those at your reception? If you have signature drinks, name one college related?

Order ice cream from the Creamery! My uncle lives in Boalsburg and sent ice cream to my dad for his 60th birthday (for delivery context we're in the Philly suburbs)! No issues with delivery, no melting, and it was delicious!

FH works for our alma mater, so we're trying to figure this out too! Our engagement pics are coming up on Sunday, so I've picked out outfits with UNI t-shirts. I also want to do something with a signed football he has, but I'm not sure. When shopping for my dress I got the only UNI garter left, so we'll be doing the garter toss on a football as well. I think FH was also going to do UNI socks as part of his gift for his groomsmen. And since there is a game that day, we will probably have TV brought in so we can watch!

We both went to the same university, but met after graduation. A lot of our friends also graduated from UCF (Go Knights!) so we want to incorporate something into the day.

So for now we have that the grooms cake will be UCF theme and at some point we will probably have our DJ have the UCF Alum on the dance floor while we play Zombie Nation. Are there any "cheers" or theme songs specific to Penn State Football that the DJ could incorporate into the night?
