Including directions in your invitation

Lauren, on June 1, 2015 at 1:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Hi ladies! So we are trying to word our wedding invitation and having trouble on what to include in the directions. We have guests coming in from all over. I know most people use GPS now but what do you have to include on the invitation regarding directions?

We didn't put anything but the full addresses and names of the ceremony and reception locations.

I have the directions on a card with the accommodations. i figured that i would include them, if people use them they use them if not i still provided them with directions. I did realize that i didn't put the address on the directions sheet but it is on the invitation itself.

On the front of the invite we just had the name of the venue, but on the back we included a Google map and the address.

I'm actually still debating adding them to the invitation because while our ceremony site is easy, the reception site is really complicated (both getting there and leaving.) If we do write directions, we'll print a picture as well.

We put the venue address, and left printed directions with the hotel front desk explaining some of the road work that was happening.

We listed the addresses next to each place on the invite.

We skipped directions, almost everyone uses GPS anyways. We considered putting in a map since I think that is usually the most helpful for people to know where the parking lot is in relation to the venue and stuff, but we didn't have the money/space to include it.

I don't think it's a big deal or necessity. I usually ignore any directions given to me and just put it in Google Maps on my phone anyway.

We made cards to pass out at the ceremony with the directions to the pub and to the ice cream place we were going to before the reception.

On the back we put directions to the reception venue in case some people went there directly.

Thanks ladies! Our ceremony and reception is all at the same place. I think we will just list the address to the venue with the address for accommodations at the hotel since we are offering a shuttle to and from. Listing from north south east and west and even possible airports is too much! I never look at them when we are invited to weddings either we just plug it in GPS. Even on our venues website it brings you right to google for directions. I just worry about older people! The map is a good idea! Thank you all!

I think we live in a time where paper maps are not being used as much. But if the venue provides them, might as well use them.

We're putting in a map and directions on a separate card because GPS & MapQuest will get you lost sometimes. We got lost going there the first time with MapQuest & then GPS took FH the long way when he drove out there with his mom to show her. We figure better safe then sorry.

We put the directions on the accommodations card because we had the space and people don't usually complain about having too much information.

We just gave the address. We have a link on our website for guests to click on if they need directions.
