In the Covid-era, what is everyone doing for the reception?

Elaine, on June 15, 2020 at 8:31 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 12

I've made peace that my wedding, come early October this year, will likely be a small, intimate affair due to the pandemic. My fiance and I are excited to live stream it on youtube for our friends and family who won't be able to travel because of health concerns.

But like, we already booked our reception and are still unsure if we can keep our reception hall for our wedding day. We've talked back and forth about maybe having the reception later, post out wedding day (a one-year anniversary I think would be appropriate. I don't mind wearing my wedding dress again for that!). We haven't cancelled our reception yet, although our wedding planner regularly checks in with them to see what's going on.

But I'm curious, what is everyone else doing?

We are setting up a lot more tables so fewer people per table. Having everything served to guests and servers will be wearing masks and gloves. Setting up hand sanitizer everywhere and people can wear masks when not eating.

    Ok. That sounds reasonable.

I guess for a gift card, I could include hand sanitizers and masks for guests.

We started planning an intimate wedding from the start. However our reception venue can only accommodate 30’ish guests which is what we’re anticipating. It won’t work if we have to keep 6 ft distance. Our plan B us to get married with just our immediate family (parents, possibly siblings) and Zoom with other guests, and do a vow renewal with reception next year. Our plan C would be to postpone altogether.

We are still planning our wedding / reception our count is at about 45 (us included) and I think we're fortunate because 1/2 the guests are immediate family and the other two 1/4s are our friends / co-workers so we can seat them together as we're all "essential" workers and haven't left one another since this whole thing started.

On the flip of that, we're comfortable with our planned headcount and everything will be outdoors anyway including our rehearsal.

Our wedding is scheduled for November 21st in coastal VA and at this point we are still planning on having it as normal. We would have a max of 60 people, including the wedding party, anyway, since all of our family and most of our friends live in a different state than us. Plus the hall we are doing the cocktail hour and reception in is HUGE. Like we are leaving the cocktail area set up during the reception, dance floor in the middle and tables at the other end.

I’m not looking into rescheduling or postponing unless we have to per the state. But the earliest I plan on evaluating that is early to mid-September.

We rented a cabin and are just having music and sandwiches there. And obviously cake! But we also only have 19 people. We are bringing our Google speaker and spotify So if people wanna dance they can and if they just wanna chit chat they also can. No biggie.

Ours Is 10/17 With 60 Guests And We're Planning As Normal. We Aren't Postponing Or Making Any Major Changes unless The Venue Makes Us.

We are spacing out tables and going to a served buffet, rather than serve yourself. Lots of hand sanitizer. Right now cut the list in half, down to 50 but hopefully our state opens fully by September.

I definitely can’t process the idea of having the reception at a later time. I was barely able to get time off from work for my wedding in september. I am going to move forward with the wedding that day regardless of what happens. Who knows what next year will hold- we could be thrown a curveball. I’m planning to cut guest list- maybe 50. Hopefully it will be allowed.

Mine is late October in rural NC. I’m currently still planning it normally. 150 people, no meal, but heavy appetizers. I’m hoping the weather will be nice enough to have a portion of the reception outdoors (lawn games, dancing, socializing outside and food and socializing indoors).
