In Search of Tips to Save Money!

Ashley, on September 22, 2019 at 10:05 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12
Hi All! I’m looking for more resources to save money on my wedding decor. So far I’ve looked at Wish, Let Go, and Etsy. Facebook hasn’t been very reliable for me. I’m having a rustic wedding in October so any suggestions help!

I got a lot of my decor off Amazon. I just typed purple wedding decor in the search button and had tons of things to look at. I got some things at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, a couple things from Walmart and Walmart.com, and a few things from Michaels. Nearly everything was Amazon though

Aside from flowers on my tables, table numbers, candles and a seating chart, I had absolutely no decorations. No signs. No memory tables. No ceremony decorations, flowers or arches. Your best bet is to keep it simple and not overdo it if you'd like to save money. Ask your venue what they have that you can use. In my case, I purchased my own candle and candle holders without realizing the venue had a bunch I could use. I was able to resell them so it doesn't really matter now. Honestly, guests don't care much about your decor. If their food sucks and they have a lousy time, they won't find themselves saying "oh but that birdcage really made up for it" lol. You can keep it simple and people will be just as happy! I see a ton of wedding stuff for sale on Facebook Marketplace! That's a bummer it's not helpful for you.

I have heard that party City has a bunch of stuff, and if there isn't one near you they have an online store too.

I found that, depending on your decor style, dollar stores are your best bet. You can build submersible centerpieces for less than $8 a piece using dollar tree vases, floating candles, and rocks. Then you can order real touch flowers off etsy to go inside, or buy cheaper real flowers.

If you're leaning toward fall rustic, buy seasonal things when they go on clearance. It looks like you have a few years, so you could get a ton of stuff for very little cost.

EBay, dollar tree, craft stores... Don't be afraid to just borrow things from people either

Dollar tree has been my best friend. I also watched for sales at places like Michaels and Hobby Lobby for some of my more expensive stuff. I also got some cheap things on amazon. I just got creative. If I found a good deal, I figured out a way to make the items work. My FH works for Half Price Books, so we have been able to get books to use as decor for very cheap as well.

I asked friends and family to save their michael’s, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby coupons for me and I use them to buy items I know I’m going to want to use.

Dollar tree is a great store to save money and they have incredible pieces you can use. Pinterest is a great site to get tons of tips on saving money for what you want. I personally saved money by being our own DJ because my fiance is in 2 bands that play locally so they have all the necessary sound equipment. We're having his aunt and uncle cater our wedding, they will make the food and we will have it set up buffet style and have one or two tables called at a time. I'm DIYing my own centerpieces. I saved over $3,000 by using faux flowers instead of real. We're having our ceremony and reception in the same building, so we dont have to pay for 2 venues.

If you're having a bit of a rustic fall theme I would suggest watching the craft store sales. They will want to clear out the rustic pretty quickly to make room for Christmas stuff. I bought a lot on Amazon and picked up a couple of things from Oriental Trader. I also found a few things to add to what I already had at the dollar store. We're also not doing a lot of décor outside our centerpieces and our selfie station area. Our ceremony and reception will be mostly outside and our venue doesn't need much decoration.

As far as decor goes, we are doing moss centerpieces. i made FH go to the dollar store, against his will, bc i wanted to put pillar candles in vases, but i wasn't going to pay $5 per vase. we got all the vases we needed at the dollar store and they are perfect. the candles, moss and fairy lights we got from Amazon. it all looks really nice together. the books we got at a flea market bc again, i'm a bargain kinda girl. the candle in the photo is not what we're using, it's just what i had the moment to see what it would like all together. we are also hiding the battery pack better.

I have found a lot of my ideas on pinterest and then how to execute through youtube. Almost all of my decorations are coming off of Amazon. Also flower vases, the dollar tree or dollar general has a selection (I actually found vintage looking vases that look Great!) We are doing wooden disks as well as part of the center pieces but that I am getting through a park. If you happen to see people cutting down trees or such, sometimes ask if you can get a log or two to add to the rustic vibe for your wedding, if they are just going to get rid of it, then by all means grab it! Also thrift stores have a lot of interesting things as well. Also if your looking for flowers, I am doing mostly fake, but I am doing real baby's breath (Fake just looks like crap to me) and bulk for baby's breath is relatively cheap! Also Yard Sales are another cool place to find stuff too!
