In search of a reading about family/relationships

Katelyn, on August 18, 2020 at 5:29 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 3

I'm looking for suggestion on a ceremony reading for our upcoming mini ceremony/reception. We already eloped on our original date of 6/13/20 and exchanged our individually-written vows, so with this ceremony, I want to focus more on the people who are able to come (immediate family and our wedding party) and who have helped shape us. I haven't had much luck finding a non-religious reading that emphasizes our roots and the love we have from our family and friends. Any suggestions are welcome!

I found this poem and i just thought it was really cute:

"I Love My Family So Much" by Filoi Hemopo

To be apart of a family like mine
    is so divine
    where love is shown
    hurt is shared
our love for each other is never impaired

    we talk
    we laugh
    we cry
    but we are a family
and we do it all together
for as a family we do it all as one

    for we are family
    a family full of strength
    a family full of love
a family no one can touch
that's why I love my family so much
my family is my life and always will be forever

Hi Katelyn! There's a great quote from Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen you can use: "What is family? They were the people who claimed you. In good, in bad, in parts or in whole, they were the ones who showed up, who stayed there, regardless." ❤️

"Family Comes Together" by Glaedr the poet is also a beautiful passage!

This is a great idea! I am curious about your elopement. Was it just you two? My fiance and I are going to do it with 2 close friends as witnesses because it is too much travel for both of our families to be together. Then next year, we will have our original wedding with vow renewals. I'm optimistic about it but also trying to manage my expectations.

Part of me thinks it still might not be possible to have the original wedding next year, and may opt for an event like this with immediate family next year if that is the case. I love the family focus.
