In person consultation for alterations

Nikki, on June 25, 2019 at 5:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hello WW fam! I’m just wondering if any of you went to different seamstresses for different quotes. I have about 7 in mind and I’m wondering if that’s too much to visit them in person for a free consultation. I get to wear my dress over and over, haha. But will I be overwhelmed? Also, what should I be looking for in a seamstress? Tell me the good and bad stories! Thanks!

I just went to one; most places couldn’t tell a price until they saw what all had to be done and tacked it and everything.

I would do phone/email/text consultations with the 7, then narrow it down to 3 to go in. Or just pick the top 3 best reviewed.

I’ve emailed most of them and they gave me an estimation but they also mentioned there would be a better estimation if I came in person. So hard to narrow it down. Haha. I want to go to them all so I hope I’m not missing out. So far everyone has been nice.

I mean if you want to go to 7 appointments, more power to you! I would just get tired of doing it & making time in my schedule to go to the appointments since they typically take 30 minutes or so without driving.

Omg, no. I was so busy & overwhelmed, I went with the shop’s seamstress for my reception dress, and their other bridal shop’s recommended seamstress for my DW dress. Both turned out great!!

Going to one seamstress was overwhelming enough for me haha. I would thoroughly read their reviews.

I just went to one, but I love my seamstress! She's been doing bridal alterations for 25 years ans is very experienced in all silhouttes and styles, which was important to me since I have a mermaid style dress with beading and lace all over the bodice and a fully ruffled skirt. She got me to send her a picture of my dress and gave me an estimate. I had my first alterations appointment almost 2 weeks ago, and the cost was about the same as what we originally quoted me. I got cups put in, the butt/hips taken in, a hem, and a 3 point bustle all for $305. My dress has a ton of detail so that cost was a steal!
