In-house florist issues

Olivia, on November 22, 2019 at 3:07 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8
I am running into a bit of an issue... the venues I want (separate ones for ceremony and reception) have an in-house florist only policy. I’m sure the price of the fresh florals they use at the reception is more than I would’ve ended up paying for silk flowers, but I was okay with their requirement. What was more important to me was getting my own corsages, boutonnières, bridesmaid and bridal bouquets custom made from Etsy using silk flowers. My main flowers are orchids which are not easy to dry/preserve, and I at minimum wanted my groom’s boutonnière and my bridal bouquet to be a keepsake. I also know from my sister’s wedding my parents like to try to preserve their corsage/boutonnière also. The ceremony venue won’t allow me to bring in any outside florals/decor, and I’m pretty sure they also only do fresh flowers. This frustrates me for two reasons: 1) their in house florist naturally has a price minimum which is going to be far more than what I would’ve had to pay for what I actually want on Etsy, and 2) I won’t have the keepsakes. Thoughts??? I’ve had a horrible time trying to find the ceremony venue and this one is otherwise perfect so venue shopping further isn’t really an option for me...

Have you asked if you could keep your bouquet and one boutonniere? I don't see why you can't if you're actually paying for the flowers in the first place?

You can get your flowers preserved in other ways. Not as ideal as fake flowers, but at least you have the option of turning the real flowers into keepsakes.

I’m sure I could keep them, but we are traveling away from home for these venues as it is so trying to get them preserved before they start looking less alive isn’t going to be easy... plus real flowers are so fragile after being preserved. Ugh, I just wish they’d let me use silk Smiley sad

Well I would give them to your parents let them preserve them since it sounds like they have done this before and then shadow box them maybe

Have you asked if they would make an exception for just the bride’s bouquet and grooms boutonnière so you could do silk flowers to keep? If you explain the sentimental value perhaps they’ll be willing to let you do that piece in silk.

Otherwise, just go ahead with the fresh flowers and have a silk version or your fresh bouquet made to match and keep. Like others said, the silk version will be more vibrant than preserved fresh flowers.

I have considered this after they told me I couldn’t bring in my own.. I just wasn’t sure if the different between real vs silk would be noticeable in photos since the other flowers would be real?

Yes, I think real and silk flowers will look different in photos. But the bride’s flowers are supposed to look different from the bridesmaid’s anyways, so... 😊

For our first anniversary, my sweet husband ordered a vase of flowers inspired by my wedding bouquet. It was not an exact replica but a beautiful piece with some of the same or similar flower types as I had on our wedding day. Just throwing that out there as another way to relive your wedding day bouquet if you have to or want to accept fresh flowers on your day.

True, that might keep it from being noticeable...
