In a slump...

Kerin, on June 3, 2020 at 9:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 20
Anyone else hit that period of time where all vendors are nailed down, save the dates are sent, and there's truly nothing that needs done for a bit? I've been so wrapped up in wedding stuff for the last 4 months, now I'm, dare I say it...bored!

It's too early to put things like the card box or invitation packets together, the wedding isn't until February, i already have my dress, but the seamstress wants to do alterations at the end of October. I need to wait til end of December to order outfits for the little people in the ceremony.
How do you keep yourself excited when your next wedding responsibility is a couple months away?

I’m in the same boat! Our wedding is in December and the only things left to do are order dresses for our flower girls (appointment is next weekend) and get tuxes made up for the Groom and his Best Man but that won’t happen until closer to the wedding.

We ordered our invitations last night (we will be giving them out in August/September) so I’ve been keeping busy by making wax seals which are monogrammed with our initials that we will use to seal our invitations with.
Bingeing Say Yes to The Dress is what I will be doing once the wax seals are done! And trying to relax haha

I get this slump. I had been in that state since mid-march and only recently snapped out of it. Like pp said, I binge watched anything wedding related to get me back into the excited planning mode. Disney+ has a Disney Fairy Tale Weddings show, Amazon Prime has some great wedding shows that are fun to watch like Wedding SOS, Rich Bride Poor Bride, and Rich Groom Poor Groom. The last one is wild because the couple agree to let the groom plan the ENTIRE wedding (bridal dress included) for a budget boost of an extra $5000. There are also YouTube channels with wedding series like Hayley Paige’s “Just Got Paiged.”

Lol, since this pandemic there isn’t much to do besides watch TV so I’ve found all these out of boredom 😅 Hope they help give you a boost!

I like that you have a lot of time! Take that as a good thing because you’d be less stressed. You could go over the details further. You can enjoy the free time

Honestly, the wedding planning gets old after awhile. But keep in mind that the holidays will most likely be busy to try to knock some of that out before Thanksgiving. I started making list. Pictures I want, songs for ceremony, reception, vows. I was spending the few months before original date looking for makeup person, headband, jewelry, etc.

Smiley smile I filled it with honeymoon planning (granted, my honeymoon is now potentially being rescheduled). I'm also taking the time to focus on my skin and overall health.

I think it’s great to be done with planning and just chill. We had all vendors booked and details decided, a month after booking the venue. That way we can just enjoy the engagement period without constant wedding planning tasks. For some reason, brides tend to (purposefully) drag everything out so that it consumes every day of the engagement. That’s probably why some brides end up with multiple dresses and dress regret or they change their minds constantly... because they continue to search around and do wedding planning “tasks” when they’re actually done.

It’s totally OK to have months doing nothing wedding related. It’s been like that for me since January. I love it and it hasn’t decreased my excitement about the wedding in any way.
I think it’s a total misconception that brides are supposed to be excited and blissful 24/7 during the engagement. My advice would be to avoid doing daily wedding planning and just live life normally. Otherwise you run the risk of being one of those brides who ends up with has “wedding blues“ after the wedding… Instead of being excited about marrying their spouse and starting a life together.

That happens! Just double check your dates on payments, because I got some wrong after I thought I had nothing to do!

Other than that, just relax and enjoy. You get to go back to your old hobbies for a bit!

I'm worried about adhesives not sticking if I put things together now...the card box is supposed to be fabric covered and I'm super excited to make it, but I'm worried I'll put in all the work and have to redo it in January 🙄 do you think that would be a problem? I live in an old (1890s) house with the only AC being window units in the bedrooms, so temperature and humidity could be a problem. I've also gotten really beautiful decorative wraps for the invitations that requirements to use a dab of rubber cement on the corners, but I'm remembering how much humidity caused discoloration on childhood craft projects 😂In a slump... 1
Would you be concerned about those things or am I overthinking?

    Thank you!!

I think part of this has been the months of not being able to do much else. We started hiking again last weekend, so I'm hoping we can get back to our rhythm with outdoor activities so I'm not staring at this app all the time 😂

    Thank you!!

I totally understand. Although we’re done with planning, I find myself opening this app and reading posts, out of boredom (and mainly to avoid work tasks) 😉

Yes! Right there with you sister. I’m in here bc I’m “bored.” I was just thinking I need something to do!
I have some things to look forward to though (ring arriving next week, invitations should be here any day, and my dress should ship in the next 2 weeks - fingers crossed!). Things are at a standstill at the moment and I miss planning lol
All of the decor has been selected and purchased, and everything is booked! Just the waiting game now. Trying to be patient as much as possible.

Of all the virtues, "patience" is the one I suck at the most 😂😂😂 a coworker told me to start reading...I told her I read these forums all day. She said that doesn't count 🤷‍♀️ lol
