Importance of wedding website

Joanna, on November 7, 2019 at 2:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Okay, how important/ necessary is the website for your wedding? Do people actually look at it? What is it for? I see a lot of previous discussions have had technical issues with their sites, so honestly so far I'm not totally sold. Any input would be appreciated 🤗

My Zola site is beautiful and works great. I needed it because everyone is traveling and it has all the details on there. And only about 3 people looked at it 😐

It's not a necessity and while some people might not bother to look at it, it is helpful. Our website has all of the information that will be on the invitations, but also and FAQ page for things you don't normally mention on a details card, an accommodations tab for nearby hotels, an "about us" and photos page, a registry tab, and also an online RSVP option. My big selling point for a website was the FAQ page. I also listed an email address for any additional questions guests might have.

We're using the Knot website and I haven't had any trouble so far. I also like that they're partnered with Amazon where we have our registry, so for every gift bought from our registry, the knot donates a percentage to the charity of our choice!

For us it was necessary because we did RSVPs thru it and also almost every single person attending our wedding had to stay at a hotel so we were able to put that information. We used Minted and had no issues. I wouldn’t recommend weddingwires wedding website from seeing posts on here though.

It isn't necessary, but I think it is helpful. It is a good place for people to go for all the information about your wedding. We included when the wedding was & where, recommended attire, things to do in the town & restaurants, airport & hotel information, who was in our wedding, how we know each person & a photo of each person, photos throughout our relationship & engagement photos, our registries, & a frequently asked questions page. It can also be used for RSVPing, but we went the traditional route and had people mail their responses to us.

A friend of mine used Zola. Everything was Zola. They did not share STDs or paper mail which forced everyone to use Zola. I want to and am using Zola too. I am a product of the age of technology and therefore, it is easier for me to receive almost everything in one place (RSVPs) and list repetitive questions on a site than to handle unnecessary calls and paper mails. Like Amber mentioned the FAQ page and email was important to me. Weddings are already stressful. I do not need 50 million calls about "can I bring my kids?" Refer to the website. I think the younger crowd will utilize the website more than the older crowd. Overall, it's not necessary but it's nice.

It isn't necessary but we have found it extremely helpful. Every guest is traveling from out of state so we put hotels, nearby airports, things to do, etc. on there. We've directed several people to it already for accommodations and the wedding isn't until May. Our registry is also attached so guests can see that there.

For me (and my crowd), it's extremely important. There is no way I could cram all of that information on a single invitation, nor do I want to mail out multiple enclosure cards. My website is going to include an FAQ, in addition to things like travel, hotel, and timeline information, plus the online RSVP.

However, unlike 99.9% of brides, I'm actually building our wedding website, with our own domain name, from scratch--I'm a software engineer.

I am honestly not doing a wedding website or a wedding hashtag. Pretty much everyone coming to the wedding I have on Facebook or Instagram. So everything will just be on social media.

Any time I've been invited to a wedding with a site I either forgot about it or looked once and then forgot about it. They are pretty useless IMO but that's just me. If your crowd is super into things like that then go for it. For us and our little 30 person wedding I just made a FB group to keep people updated on where we'd be while in Vegas

It's not 100% necessary but it can be very helpful with all the info that you put on there that you can't fit onto your invites. You can add a details/accommodations section (that's more in depth if you already have a details/accommodations enclosure with your invite), you would have your registry and with me for those traveling, I added a top 10 local activities page.

You can also set up your RSVP page as well. As far as which sites to use, I'm all about customization. I've seen on here that wedding wire website isn't the most compatible for a fully functional website for whatever reason. I heard Zola and Minted are pretty good sites but I'm actually using Wix. My site barely even looks like the original template and I've had ZERO technical issues!

I honestly think that the wedding website is super helpful. Especially for out of town guests. It allows you to put up directions, notes on parking availability, links to sleeping accommodations, and it puts your registry on your page as well for all of the people who prefer to online shop. I've tried a couple of different planning site and wedding wire offers the best options and you're able to customize if you want. Personally, I think it's super worth it but definitely not necessary.
