Importance of Photographer Turnaround Time?

Your wedding day is a very personally and special time, I would go with the person you connected best with because they will be able to portray your emotional connections on camera better. You will want to be relieved in knowing you can relax and just be comfortable that day! 8-10 weeks is a difference but I am actually weary of 2-3 weeksn, usually when it's that short of a time frame someone else is doing the editing. I am a photographer and it usually takes me 4-5 for my partner and I to do each one individually. Personally I would go with the person you felt a connection with!

I agree with Amanda 100%! Feeling a good connection from your photographer is really important. You need someone who will make you feel comfortable on a hectic day. And if it takes them 8-10 weeks to turn your pics around, that (hopefully) means they are taking their time to get all the details just right. Go with your gut!

I figured, I just wanted an outsider's opinion. She said she usually gets it back sooner, but likes to say 8-10 so she under promises and over delivers. And since it's an October wedding (very popular in Ohio) then it may take that long. We will probably be on a 2-week honeymoon, anyways. But I know a friend who just got married early November and she didn't get her pictures back until two weeks ago. So that's why I was curious what everyone's take on the timeline is.

Our photographer/photography company said we will have our pictures back in 6 months. That is worse case scenario since they handle a large volume of weddings/events. I would take 8-10 weeks any way.

I'd sacrifice turn around time for better quality and a better relationship with the photographer.

Ditto to Rustic. Mine is 60 calendar days. I could have gone with another photographer, but I found her to be too pushy and was turned off. I love mine. He's amazing and is so quick to return all of my inquiries. Even if he's busy he'll tell me so and say he'll get back to me on X date and actually does!

Our photographer's contract stated 90 days. We waited 135. I was fine with the 90 days because we knew upfront what the wait time would be. What pissed me off was when she didn't uphold the terms of her own contract.

I would NOT choose a photographer you don't especially like as a person just to have pictures back sooner.

Don't go with a photographer who you think is "not nice and snobby." You shouldn't have to deal with that attitude. The turnaround time that they quoted is crazy fast- it might not be accurate. I'd be leery about it.

The other photographer sounds more reliable and honest. It's no contest!

The DJ and venue probably get some sort of kick-back for recommending this person. That happens a lot in many industries. I'd go with the person you like, even if the turnaround time is a little longer. Good rapport goes a long way on your day.

Go with the photographer you connected best with. Make sure they are good photos and the photographer will capture the essence of you and since you connected so will it sounds like there is a good chance. You will have to wait for them for two months but you'll have them for the rest of your life.

Based on your description of the first photographer, run the other way! i would definitely go with the second one based on your connection with them, as long as you're happy with her work that you've seen.

I'm a photographer and I'd go with the second person. It takes time to properly edit/color correct images.

Agree with everyone else. You will be spending most of the day with this person so you really do need to get along with them.

If you're constantly annoyed or put off by them it might show in your photos. Just something to think about.

Right. Everyone makes sense. We thought that Number 1 was cheaper, but then we were told that the included engagement session does not include prints or a CD with the images. We would have to pay $300 to get the picture on disc, or pay for prints. And the session is under 30 minutes and she said it has to be at a park in that city. So this pushes them to be more expensive than Number 2. Thank you, everyone. I just needed to hear opinions

One last thought on the 2nd photographer. Wether it's 1 week or 10 weeks, it's important that a business person meets the time promised. Earlier than promised is fine, but as more time than promised goes by, you may worry that something is wrong, and you might be right. Check to make sure that taking too much time or not delivering files is a problem with your choice. If there is a problem, keep looking for a photographer, you will find one that can do it all.
