Impasse on invitations

Nay, on February 5, 2022 at 10:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
Okay, I really want these cool magazine invites for the wedding but they cost like 4 dollars a piece, and we need atleast 100. Then i guess we can factor in an extra 2 dollars for envelope and postage. My FH says 600 dollars on invites is a hard no for him. Most people throw them away so why waste the money and time, in fact, he thinks i should just make an invite online and email to everyone, for a grand total of 0. I think if i design the magazine myself, and get them printed, it would cut the cost in half, but that still doesn't sound as good as free to him. I understand our budget is tight, so every dollar counts, but i have wanted these for years! What to do??

If it’s something you want and he doesn’t, can you pay for it yourself without affecting wedding budget?

If your budget is tight, I have to side with your fiancé on this one. $600 can go a long way toward something else that you and your guests can really enjoy, instead of a piece of paper that (FH is right) everyone is just going to end up throwing away. I can honestly say I don’t remember what any of the invitations to the over 50 weddings I’ve been invited to looked like.

Yes i honestly can't deny that he is right about that, shoot i dont even keep things like that. Its just something i have always wanted for my wedding and we are already not doing save the dates, programs, or menus, i just one thing that really shows our personality. But i think i will have try to do that in a digital format.

You can buy only a few of the magazine invitations for yourself and close family/bridal party just so that you have it as a keepsake and detail for photos. That would be only $40 for 10. And then send the majority to the rest of guests with less expensive invitations or by email. I agree that most people just throw them away. But your close family and maybe bridesmaids will keep them as momentos.

Remember you don’t need and invite for each guest, just each household.
If you can design them yourself, you can print them at Staples or Office Depot for pretty cheap. I designed mine myself. I spent about $100 total in paper items (std, invites, rsvp cards, envelopes, postage and pocket envelopes)! I understand budget is tight and many people don’t particularly care about the invites. But if this is a must have I say find a way to make it work. For me the pocket envelopes were a must have. I couldn’t find a sale, deal or coupon but I bit the bullet and got them. And I am glad I did, even if no one else cared.

I was going to say, the OP might not need 100 invites unless it's a huge wedding! I'm inviting 172 people but that's only 80 invite suites. But I agree with the person who said you can do the expensive magazine ones for VIP guests (parents, bridal party, close friends) and then do a more traditional invite card for everyone else.

For a guest count this big, you both will really need a good grasp on how your budget will be allocated. Generally, if you want to cut the budget, you cut the guest list as often the largest costs are f & b, even decor for that many tables (if you serve dinner).

Additionally, I would not follow the first poster's advice & pay for things yourself if you disagree. Wedding planning should be a project you two share. A "secret wedding" may breed distrust between you two, and start a risky power dynamic in your marriage where 1 feels entitled to take liberties based on earning potential. Good luck.

Thank you, you're so right. I decided to just build my own magazine on canva, and include it as a digital file with our invites. I will get a few printed, for special guests or keepsake purposes but ultimately, we both get what we want.
