I'm having a Thursday wedding...what is a good time for it to start?

DeJohnna, on November 18, 2016 at 7:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I know my wedding isn't until forever away but I just wanted to get some feedback on what time it should start. My FH's brother just got married on a Thursday and it started at 6:00pm (really at 6:30pm) and the first person left at 8:45pm. I thought it started kind of late. I was thinking about starting around 4:30pm and ending at 9:00pm. I have the venue from 9:00am-9:00pm. I don't want to my guest count to go down because of the time it starts. What time would be better earlier or later?

I wouldn't do it any earlier than your brother did. Most people get off at 430 or 5, have to drive in traffic home, get changed, probably get kids ready, and then drive to your wedding.

Also, I would leave around the same time during the week, regardless of when the wedding started. If people work, they will probably do the same in order to drive home, get any kids in bed and go to bed themselves.

I agree with PP. 6:30 is good otherwise people may not be able to make it due to work

I think if you do it that early you're probably likely to get less people because not everyone can take off work.

Anytime between 4:00- 6:00 pm seem reasonable, especially because of people who cannot get the day off of work, but can come after. As far as people leaving early, some people are not able to get days off during the week, Which is one of the cons of having a wedding during the week.

I am having a Thursday wedding, my start time is 6:30 pm. We have our space until midnight. You have to factor in that people may want to go to work and then come after.

6:30. People will leave early, it's just the nature of a weekday wedding.

Why are you doing it on a Thursday? I wouldn't want to attend a weekday wedding unless it was followed by a day off after. If I have work the next day I am not enjoying being at the event.

If you insist on Thursday, I would say maybe 5:30 is a good time to start so people don't have to take a day off of work but can maybe leave a little early. I would still be leaving by 9pm though and probably wouldn't drink.

I wouldn't be able to attend any weekday wedding before 5:30 PM and that would be cutting it close. I would suggest a 6 or 6:30 start other wise people won't attend because of work

And people with kids and dogs can't go straight from work to the wedding, and everyone needs to go home and change, so 6:30 is really the earliest that is realistic.
